Guy was totally wrong I mean 1984 happened and we still don’t have flying cars.

I feel like the book wasn’t just about predicting the near future but about how people behave under authority and group thinking…

About the real phenomenon of centering ideology around a common enemy… about alot more than the imagined state of the world he wrote about …

It’s a classic piece of literature but it’s probably pretty triggering for a lot of people with sz or other paranoia type issues.

It’s kinda creepy in a way how Orwell predicted the rise of the police state. Terms like “big brother” and “Orwellian” are thrown around in conversations and in the media from time to time.

I love 1984. It’s one of my favorite books and I’ve owned multiple copies. It’s been about 10 years since I’ve read it. I like the characters, setting, and story. The main insight I gained is no matter what you can’t fully kill the human side of people. It takes constant maintained pressure and manipulation. Also how different aged people look at the world. Young people take certain things for granted cause it’s all they’ve known while at the same time see existing holes in the system. Like in real life.

It’s a great book and it’s about how people get crushed by society. Whether it’s too left, right or indifferent the individual is lost to the masses. It’s a good warning on fascism and it’s nuts now there’s people who may be of a certain ethnicity who want to tell others who are different about how to live their lives. If you value democracy and freedom you’d do well to ignore those who often say those are their tenets these days.

Honestly. The world hasn’t changed since the industrial revolution. Really rich. Really poor. It’s politic but if your somebody with a major mental illness who isn’t like 99% of the population you shouldn’t be told how to live your life or picked on because of it.

I still find Julia the sexiest character in English literature. Just likes the sex and even Winston sells her out in the end.
