I can’t see working past 66. I can barely see making it that far. if I retired I would have to give up my car because I’m paying about the cheapest rent in this area but it’s so much I couldn’t afford gas and insurance too. I could barely afford food on the SSDI I’m on now if I retired. I would have to grocery shop perfectly and use every trick I know to cut food costs. I would have to make tough decisions like giving up Amazon music and my Echo Dot. Yeah, I will have to give up a lot.
The only thing that would save me for a few years would be my inheritance from my step dad but his wife (my step mother) will probably screw me and my sisters out of that money when he dies. I never realized before how bleak my financial situation will be when I retire.
And what I would do with all the free time is a whole other problem.
Hey @77nick77 , can you move to a lower cost area when you retire? Your money would go further that way and you may be able to afford to keep your car.
I guess Im retired now, Im on SSDI and live comfortably, I don’t have much but I don’t mind. Someday I would like to buy a dependable car, I think that would be nice to have. All that I own can be put into a large rucksack, it’s just the way I live. Im a minimalist I guess.
Yeah, especially the San Francisco Bay Area. Costs tend to decrease the further one moves out from SF and even more so if moving out of CA altogether (at least if moving East, not so much if moving North to Oregon or Washington state).
