I could never understand the works of Picasso…child-like, ugly paintings. I was never a fan.
Look at his early works (8 y.o. onwards). They are pretty good from a technique standpoint…
Picasso changed styles a lot through his life.
Childish junk…
Check his early works. He went through a lot of different styles to arrive at what he considered the best he could do. From Velázquez realism to some impressionist looking paitings:
I’ve seen Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel in the Vatican.
Very impressive work.
Paraphrasing Picasso…
“It took me a lifetime to finally paint like a child.”
I agree.
I liked seeing Picasso’s Guernica which I think is in Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid. It’s an impressive work.
It’s easy to draw realistically.
It’s hard to create art painting images abstract deconstructed and or stylized
It takes imagination
Realism doesn’t take imagination creativity.
That is a very good point.
Some people have a realistic skill set.
There was that autistic kid who could see an image just once and recreate it perfectly.
Not sure if this is the guy, but he can do it too:
I always used to admire that skill, but I guess people are just born with it.
To develop it must take some patience, but they are just building on an innate ability.
You have made me rethink abstract art more, thanks.
I noticed a picture by Turner the other day and it was a nuance of abstract and aritistic skill. I think I could really get into his work.
The very same could be said about the ability to be creative via abstract drawings and paintings. The best artists will combine high creativity with high artistic technical ability.
I have no artistic ability. I draw like a 6-7 year old. I used to be quite creative, more creative than the average person, when younger. Age has undoubtedly dimmed that ability.I think that’s the norm when it comes to creativity. There are exceptions to that rule, of course. My skill was in writing poems, and to a lesser extent short stories.
I 've never had the ability to write a book, be it fiction or non fiction, because that requires the ability to structure a story in a far greater way than is required for a short story. Basically I lack the necessary organising and planning ability. It’s not just about being good with words.
My brother and sister are good drawers and painters. My maternal grandfather did a year at the Glasgow school of art, via a council grant. A paternal 3gt grandfather and his older brother were flower painters for Graingers; a pottery company in Worcester. The job description given for their father was ‘artist’. Google searches provide no info about him. Most artists, 99%+, don’t become household names. He was one of those. Not good enough to be famous.
