Sunflower picture

Thought I’d share an old artwork of mine from a few years ago. I haven’t been drawing much so I don’t have any newer ones to share.

Honestly I think van gogh was overrated. I’m inspired by Da Vinci and Picasso, I think they were true genius.

Although I do like “Starry Nights” and “Irises.”

Very nice picture @Hadeda - It does remind me of VanGogh

Yes-it does remind me of Van Gogh-very good!

Yes, I definitely see the interest in Van Gogh. Hope you find more fulfillment in life than he did, though.

I admire people who have skills and good sense for this kind of art.
In my case, I have a mechanical mind which make me draw straight lines, squares, etc.
You have talent my friend!!!
Tolteca.

Many famous artists have interesting lives. I think Van Gogh’s life was more tragic than most and it caught peoples imagination. The whole insanity/ear thing, and eventually his suicide at a relatively young age. I believe my textbook said that he was not popular or famous during his own lifetime. His style was unique and his work paralleled his declining mental health. I can’t remember the name of his style, I would have to look it up. But his work was part of a new art movement. “Surrealism”, maybe? I’m not sure. Yes, Da Vinci and Picasso were both giants of the art world, but I don’t think that fact takes away from Van Gogh’s talent and place in the world. Michelangelo I would think was on par with Da Vinci and Picasso.

Absolutely!!! The 16th chapel is untouchable in the art world.

You are talented , saadiqah. I like this painting of sunflower. it’s DOES remind me of Van Gogh.

Lol. Also known as the SISTINE Chapel for those keeping track. Yeah, that was one heck of a church. I heard he painted some of it while laying on his back!! But the detail is amazing. It took him quite awhile.

It’s a comfortable picture,the drawing is nice…I like it!!

His work was part of the post-Impressionism movement

Born and raised in The Netherlands: Dutch Art was a part of my upbringing. I like it very much so.

I like how it is a sunflower at night. I’d say nice use of irony, but I’m not sure if I’m using the word irony correctly (the internet says people use irony incorrectly in most situations.) Either way, it is very creative.

Edit: Van Gogh painted ‘The Starry Night’ during the day from memory. I remember reading that he even tried to paint the stars as he saw them at night in their correct positions. The painting was loosely based on the view from his hospital room window. I couldn’t figure out what the tall black thing in the middle of the painting was until I read that it was a cypress tree. People say the spiral in the sky was something he actually saw/hallucinated, but I think he painted it simply because it helped to express the mood of the painting.

Oh that’s interesting - my dad is Dutch too, so I am half Dutch  He was born in The Hague and emigrated to South Africa in 1952 when he was 12

Benedict Cumberbatch was in a movie about Van Gogh. My favorite artist is Heironymous Bosch. I know I spelled it the wrong way.
