This counselling service refused to accept me into their treatment centre as I required specialist treatment. But a charity said they’d take me on for counselling. I’m grateful but I’m not sure it’s the right kind of treatment. The lady is also not fully trained and I’m worried it’s not gonna work. I felt bad to say no to her to see her tomorrow. But I’m starting work soon anyway. I think it’s wonderful what she’s doing but I just need to be honest so someone can fully benefit from her service.
DBT is supposed to be good for emotion management. It’s the primary therapy for borderline personality disorder i.e. people whose moods are all over the place.
Somehow talk therapy never worked for me. Even if i really had a good time in the therapist room, when i get home its same old me, even if i worked through things following her advices, i always lost it after a few days.
But I always liked those kind of sheets you get to write your thoughts about situation and stuff. Im not doing it any more but it helped a bit to clear my head.
There are some good workbooks on Amazon. Very inexpensive. Have you considered those?
I had bought a few books before but when I showed them to my pdoc he made a face and said those are American books so and not to read those.
I think it’s cos the treatments are different in both countries slightly… plus here we have ICD
Errr, did you keep the books? I’d give them a try. That seems like a really odd response to me, unless he didn’t want you to use them because he wasn’t familiar with them.
There are somewhere unless mum threw them out
I’ll have a look. They were self help books and had info’s In triggers etc
I don’t think we have any secret American knowledge or special American moods over here that would make them useless to you! Are they like @Sarad described, with worksheets and exercises? Because I agree that those are the best.
Depends on what mood. But I’ve been trying to immerse myself in more hobbies and activities and try to build passion towards them
Ideal therapy for moods is mindfulness meditation on a meditation app called www.InsightTimer.com I swear by it. You can put the app on your smart phone and the guided meditations can teach you how to meditate. Meditation is a wonderful way to calm and relax you and control your mood swings. It works great for me anyway. I meditate for 15 minutes, twice a day, everyday.
