What is happiness?

Could u expand on that a little? What makes it different? I do experience happiness differently than when I was normal…

Before sz I was happier.

Do you still have times when you are happy? Like deep well-being?

I felt like my happiness was more subtle when I was well … now it feels scary sometimes… Maybe mania.

I’m the most happy when I’m calm and focused, which I never am. The few moments when I’m at this mental state I feel like I can conquer the world.

Once your brain chemistry is messed up happiness depends on brain chemistry.

happiness is a warm gun. john lennon…I am pretty sure he was talking about how the army calls a gun their penis and a rifle for shooting. left, left, left right left, this is my rifle, this is my gun, one is for fighting and one is for fun. a little army trivia there.anyways…happiness I found in hope…hope can mean anything like art. to each of us…the more hope you attain, the happier you get.

Seems obvious but to have joy one should try to en"joy" life. That means wherever you are find the silver lining.

Not faking happiness but finding ways to enjoy what we DO have.

Did you find a bruised part of your apple? You can throw it out and complain about how bad the grocery store apples are, or you can say “hey no problem I can still eat the other half of the apple!” And enjoy it.

Another example is with sz you can sulk and say why me why me I got the short stick blah blah. Or you can say "hey… My mind might have a disease but I can still enjoy a lot of things…I can exercise, I can listen to music.

Not saying be fake or repress your true emotions. Just saying make the best of what you got.

Life is like poker… It’s not the cards you’re dealt it’s how you play them. You can sulk about getting a bad hand and ruin the whole game
Or you can play it right and fake it til you make it and win the game.

Happiness is positive interactions with your environment, and the correlated memories of your past. Being happy in the moment reminds people of happy memories and vice versa with sadness.

For me quieting the mind (not thinking unless necessary) and lowering the anxiety of anything by making it smaller/less important than my mind overthinks/perceives is helping me now.

Having a happy body is also very important: stretching, exercise and having self-control (reducing dopamine spikes).

Keeping things manageable (job, life habits, socializing) and having the confidence to act (a decent routine or practicing into a better experience), are other means of happiness as well.

Happiness is definitely a brain neurological correlation. As you expand your conscious experience (taking the initiative and having the freedom to abstain) and become positive with your awareness, the more you feel at peace and can handle difficult things without all the stress.

Happiness is derived from meaning. The meaning we create for ourselves when it’s unfulfilled makes us not happy. It’s when we create meaning in the world and fulfill that meaning, only then are we truly happy. Even if you’re a hedonist you derive meaning from pleasure. It’s only when a hedonist receives pleasure are they truly happy. The problem is you’re conditioned from birth to be materialistic. The average person watches 30,000 hours of tv by the age of 18 that’s not including smartphone screen time. Ideas are pounded into our head. The things that matter to most people are status, salary, and sex. This is all hedonistic. Status: how important are you, salary: what kind of life of consumerism can you provide for me, sex: are you attractive and do you wish to give me pleasure when I need or want it. These are the things we’re told make us happy. There’s more to life than money and sex. It’s up to you to create meaning beyond these things. Whether you derive them from a philosophy or way of life is up to you. Living for self is egocentric we need to realize we are part of a community. Community gives us a sense of something larger than ourselves and lets us feel like we’re not alone. Community makes people feel like they can contribute to something and reap benefits this makes people happy. Children are egocentric only thinking about getting their needs and wants met. If you fail to meet their needs on one occasion you’re deemed evil for ever until you buy them a new smartphone or gadget so they can get attention. The internet has made image everything. Being good looking matters to more people than character. Not everyone is born good looking. But anyone can choose to have good character. You can’t choose to be good looking. In this way people become unhappy when they get a gym membership and realize at the end of the day nobody still wants them. Instead focus on being a good person. There are people in the world who aren’t superficial and are looking for meaningful connections. You just need to find them and start your happiness journey.
