What Have You Learned From This Forum?

Patience.

It has also humbled me somewhat & inspired me to help out people in the community more. I had no idea that I was a higher functioning person with SZ, until I read some of the disturbing experiences & beliefs some people hold. There is simply too much irrationality of thought in some people’s mind.

My case of SZ wasn’t even a light one, it was chronic, but I could endure it better b/c of all the healthy habits & lifestyle I had led up until the point of my first episode of psychosis.

In some ways we are all more or less as chronic as others. In some ways it’s been bad for me but in other ways I’m doing pretty well.

Like I’m responsible for much of my illness, but at the same time as equally not-responsible. Which is a lot of responsibility stated right there. Overall I’m doing pretty well now. But in the past I’ve been worse than a lot of people.

I think life tends to turn around in the end for most of us. I’m a fighter…And I’ve fought to feel well, which I do now.

I like the editing feature here, because I’ve been told that I don’t think enough before I speak, but I’ve also been told that I think too much.

I think a great feature of this forum is it doesn’t tell you when someones viewed your profile, or if you’ve edited a post. I guess it’s easier to stalk someone, but it’s one of those things I’d rather not know at all, than know

this forum saved me from commiting suicide…
which i will be eternally grateful for

Now seriously what I learned so far.

•watch your language
•show some respect
•there are people out there able to hold multiple jobs of which some are not even
paid.

Oh and, people of sz.com are very much needed in real life

I’ve learned what the wide variety of cases are like, what meds are known for what, and that I am not the only athletic and smart person with schizophrenia. I also learned that not everyone is given proper treatment. I learned that stigma is the number one issue besides medication compliance.

I’m too old to care about ‘stigma’…

My family, all of my friends and co-workers know that I’m Sz. Nobody treats me any differently than before.

I’m just the same old Pat who occasionally talks to chipmunks and fries bacon in the nude.

Stigma was a huge issue for me when I wasn’t well…really didn’t help my chances at getting well and probably caused permanent damage because it made me act in a destructive manner. I think stigma is a big topic. That said, I don’t face it as much anymore. I still don’t trust telling most people I’m schiz, so it’s still there, but not nearly as bad. My closest friend tries to be understanding but I have to watch my mouth before I say the words “psychosis” and the like.

In the end, normies gonna 'normie. I think we’re long away from getting away from the stigma. A lot of the people on this message board are way more “normal” than the homeless schizophrenic off his medication you see on the streets. And that hurts our image.

I appreciate those frequent posters (turningthepage, flameoftherhine, Apathy and few others) to keep this place alive. Not forgotten BridgeComet and Hereandhere for their kind support. Thanks Patrick for giving the opportunity to leave a comment in your thread (that I have revived only after 8 months). To unnamed poster there (Hedgehod, Firemonkey, Sarad, Treebeard, Mjseu and many others), you left a good impression. Haete, hope that you get well soon. WonderDunk and TheGreatDrZen are special here. Azley! Hope you find true love soon. My fellow countryman, Ky77 and Gtx1990, how are you lately? Green6, and Mechanial, wish your diary/forum a success. Daze, even though I don’t know much about you, but I thank for your presence here. Malvok and Becca, good bye! Dreamscape, turtle, brucewills, nice to have visiting your country. Mortimermouse, yes, schizophrenia is a biological disease. Ish and Anna both sound like the same person to me. Raghu and Far_Cry0, both of you are keen in scientific research of schizophrenia. Welcome new members here (Sunshine? etc).
