all I know is a little of the history, it was colonial no? sounds like good weather and wild dagga grows there…there are a lot of pro golfers that come from South Africa…so I’m sure it has aspects that I would enjoy. I’d be concerned living as a minority, a white guy, in a predominantly African country…I especially like to get out on foot so i’d be afraid for myself that i’d run into nationals who don’t think I belong there

As a fellow South African I can say I love it. It has its crime problems and now drought in Cape Town but I love this place. It’s got natural beauty and diversity of people. There’s no place like home… not that I ever travelled out of SA yet lol!

I know of Mark Shuttleworth who is a South African billionaire and International Space Station space flight participant. He founded Canonical which makes the Linux computer operating system Ubuntu.

Been hearing a lot about Cape Town running out of water in 71 days. Really concerned for the people in SA facing droughts. <3

Good things, similar to the other English colonies (Canada, Australia, New Zealand…).

I’ve seen pictures of Cape Town because I had considered studying abroad there. Looks colorful. What are other good things to see or do in South Africa? Maybe one day I will visit.

I know of Mandela and it’s Apartheid past.
I also know of it’s Natural Beauty.

I know the rugby and cricket teams of South Africa.

We hear little about South Africa in Canada. It sounds spectacularly beautiful. Do you hear much about Canada?

I’m sad to know that other countries in the world now have a low opinion of the United States.

are you from the states @Wave?

You live in South Africa? That’s cool, I actually learned a bit of Afrikaans because it’s a pretty language and it’s super easy for English speakers to learn.

Also one of my favorite musical groups Die Antwoord is South African. I love that movie chappie that they’re in, that takes place in South Africa. I also love Trevor Noah and he’s a comedian from South Africa.

I have heard the racism is completely out of control there though. I mean, it wasn’t that long ago that it was segregated right?

Trevor Noah was talking about how he was ‘coloured’ (we would call him mixed race) and he could never walk down the street with his white mum or else they’d get arrested. He also said the place they made all the coloured people live was awful.

Awww @anon20318121 I just read a little about the Capetown drought. I’m so sorry. :disappointed_relieved:

I don’t think it is a low opinion, they simply don’t think it’s the best place in the world.

I hear about how it’s more developed than other countries in Africa. That the populations is more european than other African countries. The lower middle class there is, when compared to the USA, is almost of the homeless population. And is what those in the USA but still segregated from it’s own lower classes would consider drug addicts when they visibly look at the dress of the lower middle class in South Africa from far away. Not saying they are drug addicts, I don’t know. I just know what my people think of those who are different. No appreciation. They only think of how they live.
