What do people mean when they say abilify makes them restless?

Some people say they can’t sit still.
Does that mean it makes exercising easier?
Is it like coffee with increased focus?

Its also suppose to make people drowsy. Does that mean you are either drowsy Or restless? Or both at the same time somehow

I’m on risperidone but thinking about abilify now

Thank you

I think most people are referring to akathisia. In my experience this is being unable to sit still not increased endurance.

I’m on abilify and I suffer from restlessness. I can’t sit down for long periods, I have to get up and walk around.

I use abilify 7 mg , didnt notice anything bad, it just motivates me a littlebit and makes better mood, tryied without it was sad unhappy , its like drug i think i am addicted to it

The short version of my experience was just 24/7 restlessness, agitation, and the inability to stop moving for more that 30 seconds.

its akathisia and has to do with a certain part of the brain called the striatum. basically its a form of parkinsonian side effects i think.

Abilify made me sleepy, groggy, and I couldn’t focus on detailed things…but I got the house clean in decent time.

I take abilify . It doesn’t make me sleepy in fact it gives me insomnia and I get very little sleep unless I take amitriptyline, and even it doesn’t work awesome… i get 4 if lucky 4 and 1/2 hours sleep each night. I wish you good forutne with the abilify, but I hear it’s hit or miss with insomnia and restlessness and or drowzie effect.

I have the opposite problem. I take Clozapine and it makes me sleep too much. I usually wake up at 1 pm every day. I’m thinking of trying other drugs because I miss my mornings.

You can’t focus on anything, feel really jittery, I’ve said it’s like drinking 10 energy drinks

you’re basically crawling in your skin

It’s a terrible drug. I had to walk around like a goose while on it. It literally made me bat ■■■■ crazy

I’m on abilify and at first it made me really motivated to do stuff, but it also made my vision unfocused/blurry (but gone after I got used to it), and the motivated part sort of wore off after a while. I can’t sleep at night sometimes…I think that’s the restless part of it. I’ll just keep moving my legs, they feel like I ‘must’ move them. I pace a lot, and I feel I need to keep moving around, especially my feet even just a small tapping. I’ve somehow tolerated it for years, it’s the only one I’ve ever tried. I never complain about the side effects though so no one really knows how I do on it.

I have never been on Abilify but I had restlessness on a higher dose of Risperidone. It isn’t extra energy or motivation, it is the jitters and inability to sit still. If anything, it keeps you from focusing rather than helping you focus. It feels terrible. I am on a lower dose now and I don’t have the restlessness anymore, thank God.

I’ve been on 10mg for a few days now and am not sleeping much anymore. I’m tired by about 9:30pm but have been getting up really early. Its such a change from sleeping 12-14 hours. So far I’m good with the amount of sleep I’m now getting. But ask me in a week if its enough…
