What did you do to recover from depression?

I haven’t recovered from it, but I’m taking Wellbutrin and doing Positivity therapy books to manage it. I will need a change of life circumstances before it improves without the meds.

I’ve been on it so long I guess I don’t notice one way or the other. I take it in the morning, but then I take all of my meds in the morning.

Without antidepressants I become terribly suicidal.

I haven’t overcome it, but it gets better/worse in cycles that I recognize. The most important thing for me is to get up each day, get dressed, do something. I HAVE to get up and get dressed. Staying in my jammies or sweatpants, etc., is not an option. I must brush my hair and my teeth… after coffee of course. I must do something, and having a job is hard but it gets me out of the house and makes me focus on something besides myself. On my days off, I don’t have to go outside, but I have to do something like laundry or other chore… them’s the rules. Routine is important for me.

I have been on many different antidepressants. I am currently on a low dose of sertraline and it seems to be helping my depression. I am sza bipolar type so i cycle between depression and mania. I also find it useful to have a general routine that i stick to every day, like @Hedgehog said. It gives my life some structure and i don’t feel like i’m just sinking in to the blackness and doing nothing.

My antidepressant helped a ton

I find walking helps
You can walk it out of your system
I sometimes do an hour walk a day sometimes I cut it into short walks
On weekends I don’t exercise
Antidepressants also work for me

I am currently going through a severe state of depression for some reason. I see my doctor tomorrow. I usually hole up at home and work on my little hobbies and do things that I usually like. Usually that isn’t enough though, so I just try to remember that it isn’t forever and ride through it.

Changing my life circumstances and making some new friends helped me. But mostly it’s my antidepressant that helps. But my anxiety is still really high so I don’t have everything worked out.

While feeling depressed, I used to go for hikes in nature which lifted me up. I also did paint by numbers, coloring adult coloring books, and went to therapy.

I can’t shake this depression.
My doctor raised the Depakote but my depression is getting worse.
I’ll give it some more time.

Can you not take an antidepressant @Wave?

No I can’t @LilyoftheValley it makes me manic.

I heard Abilify is good for depression. Not sure if it’s good for you personally though.

I was on it in the past.
It was good for depression but it made me very anxious and paranoid.

I have trouble with antidepressants making me manic, too @Wave. I am currently on an almost nothing dose of sertraline because it made me hypomanic at the higher dose.

Abilify 5mg can be added to an AD in cases like that.

That’s too bad @Wave

My AP has cut my depression from debilitating to manageable. Mood stabilizer just made me flat. So I stopped taking it. Antidepressants made me cycle faster from manic to suicidal.

I’m now rapid cycling and having mixed states where I’m manic and depressed at the same time.
It’s only been 3 days on the 1500mg dose of Depakote.

It may take a while before I hopefully stabilize again.

Manic and depressed at the same time sounds awful. I hope you feel better soon.
