What causes schizophrenia in your opinion?

It’s a good question and I’m not sure of the answer, I suspect there are several causes of schizophrenia.

In my case I believe it was psychological, an inability or an unwillingness to accept reality.

Genetics and the environment.

My Mum saw ‘dark figures’ like me, or me like my Mum. It was that time called in China ‘Yin-Yang-Eyes’, by what Yin is being-dark, being-down, the dark-side of the universe, I am saying of the word of its religious context, from Chinese linguistics till its scientifical cognition of modern time. However, we beg so-called our God, who are our ancestors to fullfill in our spirits, that may be just psychologically to be sure ‘I am fine’ till the last moments of life on the earth.

It’s genetic in my case. And it’s hope Mum is living at now with 70 years old, which recent 3 decades she was just totally fine, beside her emotions. I love my Mother!

Epigenetics and and negative things that are external/environmental.

I had body dysmorphia, mild paranoia, anxiety and depression before I developed schizophrenia.

A sensitivity to stress and a genetic disposition in my case.

Probably my anorexia and coming off of a powerful antihistamine cold turkey that I was on for most of my life. But schizophrenia is 80% genetics, so it has something to do with that, but it was more than likely caused by these externalities in the environment.

Marijuana has been proven to double the risk of schizophrenia.

I heard voices as early as 14 and hallucinated stuff when i was a kid. So i probably always had something odd going on in the ole noggin.

So ill go with genetics first, environment 2nd.

in my case, maybe too vivid imagination and severe dissociation as a child. trauma.
my inner world got tainted and hostile towards myself. I was a very sensitive child and carried the weight of my whole family’s mental issues.

but I suppose it’s because of genetics, brain biology, bad luck. environment.

For me it was a chimera of increased paranoia, possibly brought on by constantly smoking weed and insecurity with my personal life. Which led to thinking everyone was talking about me, to even more psychotic thoughts and delusions.

I think it is caused by an over-activation of something niche or faulty (genetic or developmental issues), which then cascades into a pattern by stimulus of dopamine or hormones.

In my case there are very weird neurological effects that I have mentioned in other posts before, and I have broken out of the general sedation before for a short time period. So, at least in my case it may be some reaction to the spinal column and ANS interacting with the main brain areas. What I do know is that the effects get better with more sleep, and abstaining from addictions (dopamine spikes).

By inference:
Schizophrenia must have something unique as a advantage, in certain environments and adaptions, otherwise it would not be so widespread in the population, unlike very rare heritable diseases. This leads me to believe that perhaps schizophrenia is a positive adaption turned negative by something breaking within that adaption through adolescent development.

For example: Chimpanzees have much lower miscarriages than humans, and it is theorized that this because of the larger human baby head size, which increases the risk for the mother dramatically, but is not such a problem for the chimps. In terms of evolution, it would not be a stretch to imagine that it is a rat race where what breaks least will win over time. We are definitely a work in progress, and a lot of things are breaking all the time, some more than others in correlation with time. And with certain traits being better suited to certain environments, you have to add in the constantly changing environment and dynamics of our place in the world.

Our societies are trying a lot of different unhealthy things, most of which are completely new to our ancestral lineage. Each era of society had different conditions (such as calorie intake, types of food, ‘normal’ stressors, social organization, etc…), which could have given us clues to what sets off schizophrenia in people, by the variation of diagnosis in the population over time.

It could be something as simple as the composition/types of food adolescents ate, or the quantity/calories of a daily diet during that development period (has anyone tested if fasting lowers psychosis or symptoms in emergence?). Or it could be as complex as the way genes combine together between the parents, to form a new child, where certain types of genes combined with other specific types of genes breaks something fragile in later development.

On top of that how do we know that schizophrenia, which is diagnosed as a syndrome, does not have multiple causes which are all later labeled under one general brand name?

I would like to think it is something simple which our societies are doing differently since the dawn of industrial revolution times, which is acting as a higher activation factor, along with new modern conditions existing where the body will invest more in the brain, than in the human body in terms of energy and brain size. Imagine a forest fire, by my previous guess: you are increasing both the dry conditions generally, and also the chances of sparks to ignite a fire.

And then as more people survive into later adulthood, and into longer lifespans, more things are going to break down, much more noticeably over time, because there are more people alive now than there were in past eras.

I am not holding out hope on any major breakthroughs in my generation. And just so people remember, the scientists which work on investigating diseases like this needs to eat, just as much as anyone else.

High and/ or impossible ambitions causes schizophrenia.

Our world becomes oversaturated with crap which seeps into our brains and causes our heads to be like toilets lol

tbh, I’m past caring, i just want to forget about it.

I watched online that it was overdevelopment of d2 receptors. Like any and all reasons for your cells to spurt d2 receptors that was in a documentary i read before i got schizophrenia i was always super intrigued by psychology and the fact that there were people whose brains invent stuff to see called schizophrenia

Extreme anxiety. And several other factors caused my sza. Trauma. Sudden exposure to religion. My imagination. Drugs. Isolation. Ignorance. And some others. In my case.
