What are your thoughts on body modification and the history of it?

This is an extreme position held by a professor that I found. I’m trying to do research on the history of body modification and to what extent body modification of women was purposely engaged in to ward off rape and kidnapping by early/primitive tribes.

I’m just curious what people’s thoughts are

I wear plugs and I think that it’s a positive thing but I don’t know what it would mean to be in a tribe where it was expected of you or demanded of you…

I always thought it was used to control women sexually.

Keeping them from enjoying sex at all ensures they will not cheat.

I get it.

Ancient tribes are not very PC.

But it’s disturbing.

Yeah it does seem to be about control. I mean historically women are chattel. It’s horrible

What I’m particularly curious about is whether li p. Ear or nose gauging is used historically to identify women as one tribe so that they aren’t stolen by another if you take my meaning

True that.

I know who we have to thank,

But I’ll stay in line with forum policy about not bringing up religion.

I think body modification and mutilation are two separate things.

It’s horrible what they are doing to women on some parts of Africa.

I got my ears pierced when I turned 18. Then I stretched the holes. I got tired of them and took them out.

I’m glad I never got a tattoo.

I really don’t know a lot about that.

I just thought those kinds of modifications were for tribal distinction.

Also to show rank among the tribe.

Like metals in the military.

I ate 2 double cheeseburgers yesterday. Fully modified my body after that.
