does anyone know what i am not allowed to do as a person who has suffered a mental illness?
In the UK? I recall you saying you live there.
Not much you can’t legally do because of schizophrenia.
Some jobs/careers for sure. Not sure the criteria but I’d imagine it rules you out of some things.
Karoke is verbotten. Definitely none of that allowed.
No skinny dipping on weekends.
In the US I cant do things such as become a police officer or join the military. I could become a firefighter, which was my dream, but I have to face the facts that I’d be a liability. I wouldnt want to put my team in a bad spot because I heard voices coming from the building that’s one fire.
In Canada, you can’t work for the military. Most social work jobs and some medical jobs don’t request your health records but they may ask you to obtain a letter from a doctor stating you are in good health standing. The biggest barrier for me has been my criminal record obtained while under psychosis. That’s typically what happens. Canada has some strict laws in regards to wandering around homeless. I was picked up many times and charged with random crimes. Disturbing the peace. (Even when I was sitting down quietly) Loitering (In public places, including parks) A lot of the shelters won’t accept you if you have what they consider severe disabilities. Your suppose to stay in special homes that our government funds but you must have a health card. Not everyone has access to this. (To qualify for provincial health benefits you must live in the province for over six months of the year. You must have valid Identification.) I have a 10,000 dollar debt for a hospitalization which I refused but was forced into. They didn’t like me hitchhiking.
There are other rules as well. Basically, there is no way out of this situation. I’ve seen it both as a social worker and someone who developed schizophrenia later in life.
Have you been sectioned? You may not be allowed near firearms if so. I know I can’t be for 5 years. Not that I want to be around them anyway.
You can’t park your car in a no parking zone.
My psychiatrist advised me not to have children but I did anyway. If people knew that I was schizoaffective, they would probably blame me for my children’s Autism, so I don’t tell anyone really. We are discriminated against so much
Do you have your heart set on something you would like to do? Maybe if you could provide a specific example then maybe someone with experience can point you in the right direction.
You are not allowed to sit on Pinocchio’s nose
That was very unethical of your psychiatrist.
i wanted to know what i’m not allowed to do bc i just wanted to know what my options were, I looked up the internet but it wasn’t very forthcoming at all, it was as if we can do anything but i dont believe that, i know we cant go into the military or fly a plane or helicopter, (i think)
If you want to immigrate to Canada, you may not meet the excessive demand requirement because schizophrenia can be seen as a “burden to Canadian medical system”.
Meaning, I have a high chance of refusal.
Meaning, I’m not wanted anywhere. The entire country hates me, I guess. I don’t know.
We are definitely not as friendly as we try to pretend to be. I’m sorry, I wish I could come visit US cause I lived there as a kid but they won’t let me in any more. ![]()
@anon10648258 . Australia is one of the worst places to try and move too. It’s disgusting a lot of our foreign policy because we need immigrants because like many western countries we’re not producing a lot of kids. Saying that. We are a country that survived for years with a White Australia policy. Very disturbing and even these days it’s dictating policy.
Medical costs are going up around the world. I"m sure Canada isn’t the only ones cracking down on migrants. Sad. In todays world where the internet connects the world it’s very sad in my book…
@rogueone @MikaMoon It’s alright, I wasn’t wanted anywhere from the beginning. I’m not wanted in my home country either. I was destined to suffer and die.
I have a genetic disability. Being disabled makes me super ugly and disgusting. I mean, who would want a disgusting person like me?
I’m physically disabled as well. I don’t appreciate being called ugly and disgusting.
You’re not disgusting. I am.
I’m sure you are a beautiful person.
What about your disability makes you ugly? What about it makes you disgusting?
