What allowances do you get for being disabled in your country

Here in England if you have a severe mental illness or intellectual disability you can get a bus pass from your council that entitles you to free bus travel all over England. The bus network is very good around England. I use mine to go everywhere particularly to Yorkshire which has a beautiful coast. Whitby is lovely.

My bus pass. You scan it when you get on the bus. As you can see its well used. One doesn’t have to pay to get renewed, just fill the application and its sent out to you. Pretty easy for me to get as I have a intellectual disability.

Do other countries have concession bus travel?

What does your country offer people who have disabilities?

We don’t have free passes here for schizophrenia but there is for ppl over 65 y.o. Also for handicaps there is gas tax refund on gas purchases and they give you a disability car for free I think. I have seen a girl who can’t walk come to work alone with that special handicap car.

By here I meant Canada.

I’m entailed to get a mobility car as I’m on high PIP (disability benefits) They means I can get a car on finance and pay it out my disability money but I can’t drive plus I don’t get enough staff support hours to make it worth it so it will be sitting under car port from most of week.

Monetary and health benefits. It seems the better that one does while disabled, the more is afforded to him/her. I’ve had social workers work on my behalf. It was a good resource. I live in the US.

I had a bus pass for several years . I lost it because the junior psychiatrist who’d. supported my application moved to do another job in the trust. The consultant refused to support the re-claim as he hadn’t seen me for several years . I contacted the GP ,but they never got back to me .

I’ve not applied for one here as I’m scared stiff of getting off the bus at a wrong place, and getting lost.

Same, since my sz symptoms at age 15 I get lost easily. At my worst I had deadly accidents and was driving in opposite direction in another city, I would be dead if it was on the highway. I also got lost many times in the bus very far from home.

I get SSDI of $800 per month allowance – food stamps of $190 a month – bus fare of 2 dollars all day or 12 dollars for a monthly pass :slightly_smiling_face:

The bus pass where i live you need to do alot of paper work and have one of those cards that say youre crazy.

I think if i tried to get it theyd put the price down to 20 dollars for a monthly one. Im fine with recharging my card with 10 rides. I dont use it as often anymore.

Yeah, I have a quarter jar I fill up with 100 dollars a month for bus fare and laundry machines and dollar store stuff like shampoo an soap

@bobbilly Im uk, and had a bus pass for a couple of years, until it got declined cos i dont have mobility issues. I remember paying 25 quid for the doctors letter as well.

Fair enough i was refused, maybe the rules in my local authority are different. Im not bothered - in the rare occasions i venture out the flat and town, i taxi it anyway.

It did happen to be useful as ID when i was flogging stuff at Cash converters tho.

I have the freedom pass but I don’t get anything else… even with the schuz dx I did not get disability …

In Belgium you get a tax discount when you’re on disability.

The bus doesn’t come anywhere near my neighborhood. You need a car.

I don’t know what my country offers. My psychotic depression/muscular dystrophy aren’t severe enough to be considered “disabilities”. So I get no benefits.

I get a bus pass through the mental health system that helps people on disability. It costs me 50 bucks though, but its good for 1 month.

Here in the U.S., some employers can claim a “Work Opportunity Tax Credit” for hiring disabled people. On many job applications, it has asked if the applicant was ever disabled. Since I received disability in the past (even though I paid it back), I can answer yes. I’m grateful for that allowance. It might have given me an edge in getting some jobs.

I get discounted bus and train fares and work income supplements but only because I have ASD as well.

I do have a roof over my head, food, the meds delivered, and travel to doctor’s appointments and other parts of town now since I’m part of this group home but at the current time the coronavirus is playing Heck with the arrangement and a return to lockdown appears to just simply be a matter of time. I was able to visit my relatives for the 4th. I am one of the lucky ones as many in this community have a real struggle these days.

i’m just a teenager but like free meds and disability
