I’m getting more concerned about my symptoms. I’ve been struggling for months. I haven’t got an answer yet from local mental health professionals. I tried a couple different places. Basically I’m dealing with anxiety, hearing voices and getting vivid mental images when I try to sleep and bizzare dreams. I get times where I feel better and then the symptoms return. I’m almost 40 and never had anything like this.
There isn’t an exact age. A user here got sz in his 50s and another user at 15y.o.

I was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia at 38, which is considered late.
Stick with the mental health professionals until you get an answer.
It may not be schizophrenia.

I’ve tried a couple of the main places that are local. There’s not many options for mental health around here. I’m still working and active. I just have trouble sometimes at night.

Try your family doctor. They’re normally the best person. They can hopefully refer you to the right service.

how long has this been happening?
I guess it would depend upon if these things persist for weeks or more.
Off and on for several months. I went to a Psychatric Center for an assessment. They never said anything about the voices. I think cause it’s just when I go to sleep. I’m getting concerned though since it has been going on for awhile.
I think I’ve been told on here those can be hypno-hallucinations
and can happen to anybody. I don’t get them often,
but I do get them. scary as hell.

That’s what I’m getting hypnagogic hallucinations. They aren’t fun.

My symptoms only really started to manifest around 40. I was diagnosed somewhere between 42 or 43. I can’t remember exactly.

I don’t think there is a set age where schizophrenia starts. It varies by individual.

cuz some things in kids they might out grow, but who knows in their twenties.
and I’m hoping I won’t need meds for the rest of my life.

22 is the average but I assume under severe pressure anyone can get it.
Usually in your twenty’s or late teens according to statistics, if you want to trust those
