What age can children have kids till? I’m 34 and had my last psychotic episode at 32. I want to be stable for a few years before having children. How long can I wait?
My mom had me she was 43
Your chances after 40 are not so good.
When are u getting married… !!!
I don’t know when I’m getting married
I’d say early 40’s,
Then things get a little higher risk and complicated.
You have something like a 60% chance to get pregnant every time you have sex until you hit 25 and then that starts slowwwwly dropping. In your 30’s it’s around 50%. By 40’s, 40%, and your chances of having a baby with birth defects or of having twins jumps a good deal. Only at menopause, which for many women happens in 50’s, maybe 60’s, your chance to become pregnant becomes 0.
However every woman is different. When my mom was in her 40’s she accidentally became pregnant with my twin sisters and her doctor told her she had the reproductive tract and health of someone in their 20’s. So she got her tubes tied
In other words you are fine and still have plenty of time and a very good shot
I agree with Anna. As long as you’re not menopausal you can get pregnant
Any age, but as age increases fertility decreases. Women’s fertility drops in their lifetimes until she can’t conceive at all (infertility). It’s mostly gradual until their late 30s, then quicker. At 40, estimates are 50% of women can no longer conceive; for most it’s roughly 10 years before menopause.
Your risk of congenital anomalies (birth defects) and miscarriage also goes up as you age. Other risks will include post-partum hemorrhage, C-section risk, breech delivery, prolonged postnatal stay, pulmonary embolism risk, urine infections and increase chest infection risk.
Your chances of getting pregnant (without help), after 40, is more difficult. And fertility treatment is very expensive.
I find your description a little too graphic for my taste. No offence. Especially with the use of the s word. Most men with schizophrenia are celibate.
No, this is very wrong. I have a friend who tried after 40, so I should know. Just in case, I Googled it. It’s not 40% per ovulation cycle.
Researchers found that 40-year-old women treated for infertility had a 25 percent chance of getting pregnant using their own eggs. But by age 43 that number dropped to 10 percent, and by 44 it had plummeted to 1.6 percent. Among women who did get pregnant, the miscarriage rate was 24 percent for 40-year-olds, 38 percent for 43-year-olds, and 54 percent for 44-year-olds.
This is per year, as far as I can tell. The article mentions lower numbers per ovulation cycle further down and talks about it in terms of your average chance in a year further up. So your chances after 40 are not good if you want to use your own eggs and you haven’t frozen any eggs.
I am celibate like most men with schizophrenia, so this topic is actually a little disturbing. At least I found the post @Anna made disturbing.
Stop reading the thread if it bothers you.
Thank you for correcting me, my knowledge from genetics is rusty
It’s not disturbing to want children when you have schizophrenia. If you choose your partner with care and give your children a loving home, your children will most likely not get serious mental illness.
No I mean it is disturbing because it makes it seem like everyone is having sex. It reminds me of a disturbed feeling I had many years ago.
Most people are?
Yes, but I wouldn’t rather not know about it. As far as schizophrenic men go, most are single. And this a site for schizophrenia.
How do you know most men with sz are celibate? This seems like an assumption to me.
I’m sorry you found my mentioning of a normal aspect of many (the majority of) peoples’ lives disturbing. I’m not sure what to say about you finding the word disturbing, especially if you are an adult. If you find the idea of someone with mental illness becoming pregnant disturbing, then that’s an ethical matter we’ll have to agree to disagree on. I think that people with mental illness can make wonderful parents given they are stable. My dad is an amazing man and good dad and he has what I have, though admittedly at some points growing up with him was tough, though I think it was more due to his personality than the illness honestly! Also there are many other forms of disability a person can have but they are not judged for reproducing.
Should people with terrible vision not reproduce even though it can be corrected with glasses? Should people who have digestive diseases like Crohn’s not reproduce even though the illness can be managed with medication and diet changes? Should people with diabetes not reproduce even though their kids may not even develop it based on their lifestyle? Should only those deemed absolutely 100% genetically perfect be allowed to reproduce? If so, no one would be allowed to do so, because the human genome itself is rife with mutations and defects waiting to happen. My old genetics professor said it was a wonder anyone was born a functioning human being at all, or even born.
