Would anyone be willing to take over the fundraising for a new discourse site through gofundme or patreon or another site?
I figure we could get all volunteers in this thread and then maybe have a poll to vote on who should take charge if we go this route.
If no one volunteers, and we have the support of the community, I would grudgingly be willing to give it a shot. This is not my first choice though, as I am sure some of us have had more experience with these fundraising sites than me. I am positive there are those more internet saavy than me as well.
Anyway…..lets start with seeing if there are any volunteers.
I’m not in the position to take on the whole expense myself but I can do some small donations and will definitely come to the new forum, I can lend my time to moderating as well if that would help. Whatever I can do outside of a large sum of money.
Thanks @agent101g . Im not sure if I was real clear in my first post though. I have been up since early morning and am tired.
I’m hoping we can get a volunteer to take over fundraising through a site like gofundme or patreon or another site where you can raise funds for a cause.
I was in a position where i couldve afforded to open up a new site last year but I cant afford it myself now either.
Im hoping maybe if we get someone to take charge the community could fund itself.
I would like to caution anyone who gets involved in this endeavor, only use a verified platform like gofundme, kickstarter, or patreon that has proper security. I strongly advise against just giving money through venmo or paypal to a single person. There have been scammers on this site before trying to steal money from people, and this is the kind of time they would strike.
I support this idea of fundraising. I have the aged pension. So $100 per Year is affordable to me. I think finding someone who is free of time and computer savvy to organize the whole process is more difficult.
If someone is considering this, I would be happy to pm with them about some behind the scenes details to give a realistic picture about the amount of work involved for moderation/security issues.
