I’ve had a difficult time finding a job that is right for me. I’m very interested in STEM subjects, but my degrees are liberal arts types. I am trying to get my ducks in a row to attend school. I’m currently registered for classes, but I will have to drop them if I can’t get financial aid. I have filled out the FAFSA, but it’s complicated. Please cross your fingers for me. I really want to attend. Major is currently undecided.
Good luck with getting financial aid.
I also did a new degree post-sz. It didn’t result into a job but it kept me busy and I learned a thing or 2.
My thought exactly- at the very least, I’ll learn something new. And I do love learning. I’m going to try to contact the school’s disability services to get some help, maybe.
Yeah I love learning as well.
One of the things I’m focusing on is improving my Spanish.
I think I’m going to be a LLL (Life Long Learner).
I’m trying to sign up for a guitar class (private), but if they don’t want to take me for the lessons, I’m heading for Spanish as well. The only reason I haven’t already jumped at Spanish is that I really want a casual Mexican Spanish, not the more formal Spain Spanish that’s taught at the school. Instead, I’m actually thinking about heading to this local group that teaches ASL. It is run by the deaf community in my area, so I’d get a more practical education, I think.
Good luck, I hope you get fin aid and you’re able to start classes.
I have always wanted to learn ASL.
@Happy_H Great job for getting ready to go back to school!! That’s amazing! I’m definitely crossing my fingers that the FAFSA and financial aid all work out very well for you. Very cool. Very good news! Good for you!!
I’d love to go back myself! I really loved college until I flunked out because of sz. But I can’t work anyway due to sz so going back to college isn’t for me anyway.
When I was in university they denied my financial aid as I had a job. No bursary, only a small loan was allowed.
I won’t be eligible for anything but loans or scholarships.
Good luck @Happy_H
Here you go. Free STEM courses.
Do one or two courses. See that you like it and can do it.
Then think about getting the degree.
Will save you the trouble of getting into loans.
Is your objective to learn or to obtain a job in stem fields?
One of my fave learning sources. This one shows all courses ivy league universitys offer online for free. I did some of freecodecamps courses. But they had this article about free university stuff. I did some of cs50 from harvard long while back
I did an edx harvard free online course about human physiology but didn’t finish it. Also did UIPath IT robotics free certification online but gave up after doing 30% of the course.
I don’t have an issue starting or finishing courses except when they impede my abilities. My goal is to get a job that I’m able to do. I don’t know if that’s in the cards, but I know I want to try. Worst case scenario, I pay some loans for the rest of my life and have learned some new things. I love knowledge, so it’s not a difficult decision.
Yeah i figured it might be worth to test if its a good move by doing a free course. Complete it and then go to the college of choice. Plus you will be more prepared.
Yeah i found it a bit challenging to stick to the whole course. But my discipline is terrible, one of my weak points in life
What did you take?
I took a mythology class through Coursera not too long ago. I dislike the large number of students and what seemed to me to be a pretty casual environment (likely from so many students!). Honestly, the college’s name does little for me. The best school I ever went to was one no one has ever heard of in West Virginia. I didn’t make perfect grades, but I learned so much more!
I was too excited for the harvard course, in my mind I felt wow I am studying at harvard
I wish I could study philosophy at Harvard.
