Basically I have lost motivation to do everything and I feel quite low about it. All I want to do is stay in bed all day and this isnt healthy. I’m only on one medication for psychosis but I’m worried that my psychosis will come back. I’m not sure what to do really.
I tried 3 times stopping meds, delusions, hallucinations and paranoia led to suicide attempts. I always ended up in mental hospital or emergency.
Stay on your med and talk to your doctor about it.
You can die from psychosis. You could end up thinking you can fly and jump off a building.
Also if you have another psychotic break the meds not work at the same dose or indeed not at all.
Also your lack of motivation is probably caused by the disease and not the meds.
It’s not worth the risk.
Trust me I feel you I’m going through the same thing I have no motivation either and I feel like ■■■■ all the time but not being on meds is even worse
Positive symptoms are more dangerous than negative and cognitive symptoms together.
Meds only reduce positive symptoms.
Not a good idea. Talk to your doctor first.
Not a good idea. I’m doing it for other reasons, which I cannot recommend. I’m just reducing them.
Motivation is hard or impossible to fix. Its doable though. Sometimes meds increase motivation.
You could chat to your pdoc. Tell them what it’s like and they may consider changing your med to a different one.
?
What I was told was “Can’t you just make yourself do it?” The reason I didn’t was because I was not my own friend. I would not, not could not, make the effort.
Many antidepressants will be something to check with doc
Maybe u could try a different med? I noticed a difference when switching to Abilify from Invega shots.
You could try Latuda I don’t really get side effects off of it. Don’t forget the illness can cause that too so when you come off your meds and your mental health gets worse, you will have even less motivation
as usual, my solution for lack of motivation is a couple cups of coffee! Cause letting go of the prescribed medicine is such a huge risk to take.
Sorry for the large copy and paste but see the section in bold
Chapter 10 Effects of Caffeine on Mood
Hendrik J. Smit and Peter J. Rogers
CAFFEINE AND ACTIVATION THEORY Effects on Health and Behavior
Also, Mumford et al. (1994) showed a 100-fold difference in “reliable” discrimination
threshold (1.7 to 178 mg caffeine) between participants in a similar experiment
in which discrimination was anecdotally but consistently based on perceived
increases in energetic arousal and feelings such as “motivation to work.” Onset of
these effects occurred at around 21 (10 to 45) minutes after administration. Using
178 mg caffeine (the smallest discriminable dose by the least sensitive subject and
the largest dose tolerated by the most sensitive subject) in the next phase of the
study, all participants showed significant individual and group increases in energetic
arousal, hedonic tone, “magnitude of drug effect,” “motivation to work,” and feelings
of “affection for loved ones,” “self-confidence,” “social disposition,” and “concentration”
compared to placebo. The “magnitude of drug effect” was shown to peak
1 hour after the test.
Basically coffee/caffeine increases feelings of motivation to work, and feelings of “affection for loved ones,” “self-confidence,” “social disposition,” and “concentration”
It doesn’t for me…First time I hear this.
Black or with sugar and creamer?
Both doesn’t do anything except that it gives me anxiety and sh!tty feeling at night after drinking it in the morning. Too much coffee makes me nervous and my hands shake. I drink tea more now and I am better.
I have less motivation and energy on some antipsychotic meds, but less so with others, but stopping it would be wrong, Every person reacts different to the meds, so my option of meds might not be yours.
Lack of motivation is hell, hope you get better.
