@agent101g Was that a clubhouse?
I donāt know what you mean by clubhouse⦠it was just part of a building, big entrance, several offices with a kitchen and cafeteria and a computer room.
I donāt think you could prove discrimination. Itās just their assessments. They tend to have little faith in schizophrenics, unless youāre looking for a sub-minimum-wage job in a place that employs folks with special needs.
Iāve been to different places in my time. Some treat you like an invalid, others treat you as you appear. IDK.
I found them to be relatively useless without prior work experience.
@Ninjastar, They get people jobs that pay less than minimum wage?!
Itās legal for people who are severely handicapped. The justification is that they canāt do the work of a fully able-bodied employee, and also would lose disability if they were paid minimum wage. Itās sickening, but legal in most states.
Yep, I did that at Goodwill, but I wasnāt hired. I think they rarely actually hire anyone in.
Goodwill is one of the biggest offenders. They make a big deal about how they create jobs for disabled workers. They donāt mention that those jobs could never support even a single person sharing a studio apartment.
I havenāt read the whole article yet, but this seems to explain the situation.
Voc Rehab will only help you build a resume, determine what work is right for you, or pay out book fees for a college student.
They will never find you a job. Like to tell Trump, while yourāe slashing everything, this is one that can go.
Yes, in my experience they just plain suck.
This all really upsets me. Iām very sad and frustrated.
I used it in 2004. They gave me a trial job. They sent me to a different employment network. I didnāt get any further because I had a psychotic episode. I am going to try again because doctor said I can work part time. On Colorado voc rehab site it says they use supported employment. You get a job coach among other things. My county mental health center also does supported employment. I will use them over voc rehab any day.
@LilyoftheValley Yes. they did.
I was just reading the law on that. Thatās so crazy! There are disabled people making as little as $2/hr. Thatās slave labor!
but you donāt understand, all these people get Social Security,
and getting up every day and going to a job is being a productive member
of society. It isnāt about the money.
The jobs they are doing require minimal skills.
I get social security - $750 per month. Then take out $150 for insurance. My family is poor. The ssdi is not enough! My husband has a spine injury and is also on ssdi. We have 2 kids at home and make just above the limit for Medicaid. It is about the money for us
If youāre just above the limit, maybe it would be better if you went back to work for a minimum wage job, and made less than $750. Then you could get Medicaid, and youād have more money. You might qualify for SNAP band WIC benefits, too.
Iām just worried about losing jobs due to people saying Iām hallucinating and delusional.
