Being a member of this forum. How would you describe the usefulness of online forums?
I find it useful. I actually donāt make enough use of it.
Itās a good social spot, and itās also even better as an outlet.
Iāve just started a blog too, along with my notes app - the two combined help me prevent mental overload, which then translates to being able to focus better on studying in my spare time.
This forum is about 50/50 for me I find it helpful at times but thereās been a few incidents that spiraled me
You know how people have been hanging around āspeak-easysā or bars to get their news from sedated people for hundreds of years? Here we have some sedated people, around the world. What more could you ask for in an unclassified news source?
I donāt use this forum as a new source. Same goes for popular social media sites.
I donāt find this site all this useful as support for myself, but Iām here to support others who ā like me ā were falsely told that they were incapable of most things after being diagnosed. Iāve found some over the years.
And I was grateful to you for helping me for so many years, even before this iteration of the forum. But, you basically said I could leave recently, so I guess you figure I owe you nothing.
Hopefully, as one who was awarded disability, paid it back, and worked full time for so long, I can be of some encouragement.
I said you should leave if youāre unhappy here instead of complaining about things that wonāt change. Iād actually prefer that you stay as we need all the high-functioning peeps we can round up. There are things Iād like to talk about here as well but donāt. I go to other communities for that.
I check the forum daily and post most days. I do āsocial learningā and LinkedIn as well.
I think it varies drastically. I really like this forum, here. Lots of caring people, but small enough that you can kinda get to know active members. Good moderation. Helpful for when people arenāt doing well, meaning other members are great at being supportive of the people who are struggling. Thereās also casual conversation, like the Say Anything thread, so you can chat and have fun.
Iāve been to a few other forums. I enjoy a few subs on Reddit, like subs about hobbies I like. I avoid the mental illness forums of Reddit; they seem unhealthy to read and unhealthy to participate in.
I also visited a forum before I found this one (I think it was called Inspire), and it was so dead. Like 2 posts per week. Possibly less. I quickly moved on from that one.
Iām glad I found this Sz forum, though. ![]()
What helps me are those too infrequent times I actually help or inspire someone else or give a ray of hope or make someone laugh. Thatās what makes it all worthwhile.
It helps me gain some perspective and learning im not the only one out there with schizophrenia
Preach it, bruh.

well i think if were talking about usefulness its especially āusefulā in our situation.
Forums are a great way to connect which is important for everyone, but with social impairment i think usually being part of SZ i think its even more important for us! Some of us are alone a lot just by the nature of the illness but this place is amazing because it allows us to get social!
We all have bad days. Part of friendship i think is: i help you when youre down and you help me when im down⦠Thats another reason this site is great!
I just like you guys, i havenāt had delusions in a while but finding people that have sorted thru similar problem always helped I remember, yāall make for good online friends lol
Obviously you have no idea that youāre a constant inspiration to those that aspire to be well enough to work. Youāve been through a lot, beat a lot of bad stuff, and still have a sense of humor.
Even if it gets you in trouble sometimes ![]()
Just knowing you has helped me. I find myself in your corner all the time. I love your attitude about life and your fight against drug addiction inspires me.
I come onto this site mainly to give my support to others.
Sometimes Iāll ask the forum for advice.
This is by far the best mental health site on the internet.
Itās tightly moderated, unlike other online mental health sites elsewhere
Let you in on a secret.
Mods are just members that are addicted to the site. ![]()
Yeah, I kind of got that idea from that Ent guy with the beard.
