Hi folks.
My psychologist offered me today to take clozapine instead of risperidone.
I wasn’t sure. She upped my risperidone to 5 mg. And said that if I’m still not responding
well to risperidone I could maybe give clozapine a try.
But the bad thing about is, that I would have to stay for several weeks into hospital,
and that I’ve to do blood work once a week for 18 weeks and if everything is alright then
blood work once a month.
I disagreed because of the hospital stay. And I don’t know how much of change it would bring.
Because on the four other meds I was more psychotic than on risperidone. But since risperidone I’m unable to focus, am tired all day and still get these violent delusions and hearing voices also vision and illusions.
Both risperidone and clozapine worsen ocd. For delusions best meds we have are clozapine, amisulpride and risperidone. Have you tried amisulpride ? Clozapine is last option as it carries alot of side effects at medium to high doses. Consider yourself lucky if you get well on low clozapine dose.
I once got risperidone for treating OCD-like symptoms. It made me tired and seemed to stimulate weight gain.
Olanzapine (Zyprexa) is also regarded as particularly good. Amisulpride is one of my favourites; I am taking sulpiride which very similar both structurally and in terms of effects.
