Hey, it’s been a long time since I’ve been on these forums since I found some social groups for people with psychosis in my area (and I was very quiet when I was here… anxiety lol), but I thought I’d come back to share some art. Very recently I realised I’m at a point in my recovery where I can harness the experience of schizophrenia (and post-traumatic stress disorder) for my artwork, instead of just using artwork to cope with/ignore my mental issues… so yeah. Some of them are a bit scary, but they were very healing to do. Here’s one:
I cannot stress enough how helpful creativity can be for managing this illness… I’ve thrown myself into my artwork since it got really bad and I think I would never have improved so much without art. Art is good. People are surprisingly supportive of this stuff when I post it online too. Keep on truckin’ you guys
That’s remarkable. I could stare at it forever. There’s so much going on in it. You’re very talented. You should definitely post more, I would like to see them.
Thanks all, it feels pretty vulnerable to share art like this but I figured the people here would “get it” more than others… @Leaf I’d like to post more! But some are a bit crude/contain nudity, nothing sexual but I’d worry about potentially violating community guidelines regardless. I have an instagram and deviantart for my art if you’re interested though?
@Leaf Yes, especially deviantart. My username is “spacemerperson” there (I’m a new user so I can’t put a link in this but if you google search “spacmerperson deviantart” it is the first result). I made a folder for mental health art specifically here on there, it’s visible in the gallery page.
@SkinnyMe That’s great! I once had someone tell me that mental ill-health was “the price of a creative mind,” but I really think it’s the opposite – that people who are struggling in that way turn to art, writing, music, etc so much because creativity can be therapy in itself.
