UK mental health is harsh

It really is difficult to get help in a crisis here. I was in episode while actively suicidal and agitated, crisis team refused to accept me.

They told me go AE I went there wait for 8 hours then got sleeping pills which did not even help. Never again am I going AE nor seeking help as it’s pointless.

I’m sorry for you. What is AE? I’m American so I don’t know.

Yes, I myself am well aware of what’s happening in the U.K., especially with problem you’re having with the number of adult male suicides. But, mental health care seems to be tanking everywhere, even in the small city I live in here in Atlantic Canada. To make a long story short, when I had my last attempt, they wouldn’t admit me either. I kind of think to some extent, the fault lies with the psychiatrists, nurses and case managers because they don’t take their jobs or even their clients seriously enough, anymore.

You guys have great health care compared to us

I know that probably doesn’t help you at all though lol

Which country do you mean, @agent101g, Canada, the U.K., or even both?

Oh I’m sorry, I was comparing mine (USA) to the UK. I know you guys got on top of health care after WW2 in a most admirable way, but to be fair I’m not sure if the same extends to psychiatric care? I hope it does for your guys’ sake.

Yes, even though it’s free here to access, yesterday I was reading a recent article on CTV.ca about how Canadians across the country are giving our mental health system a failing grade. Wth (what the heck!.).

Mental health services have never been adequately funded since ‘Care in the community started’. There are fewer inpatient beds than when I first got ill.Sometimes patients have to be admitted somewhere far from home. Person A doing 90 % well 90% of the time 15% well 10% of the time will be prioritised over person B who’s a chronic case functioning consistently at 35%.

I refuse to go to A&E these days

All they will do is give you some PRN

Not worth the stress of waiting for hours

Quite Agree. The last place i ever want to go is an ER (A and E) when im having a crisis. It wasn’t unusual for me to spend 12 hours on a trolley in corridor, hallucinating my tits off.

Thats why im always banging on about, finding your own personal coping skills, learning to be safe and responsible for your meds when in a crisis - and making your home a safe space so you can recover in peace on your own.

Cos you will just get wound the hell up, if your stuck in those places.
