Once you go past the acute state of your illness mental health services scale down the help and support they give you . It’s certainly very true in the UK .
nevertheless I think uk mental health is very good.
I have been .
'scaled down ’ and it has been better than I thought
got a primary care nurse now instead of a cpn he specialises in mental health though
he still can write me letters and stuff which is cool
he is really nice aswell I love him
he referred me to talk therapy and courses so right now I feel like I still get the same support!
Here in the US, I’ve found our typical system works as this, Least it did in my case.
massive episode, acute, tossed in the ward, scared to come out of my room to eat or socialize. Nurse checked in every few hours, doctor once a day for maybe 5-10 minutes. They got me through the worst of it until I started to come down and regain insight, probably thanks to the massive AP’s they pumped into my arm.
Told me to find a Pdoc, and released me. That was the end and I was left to find my own way.
Luckily my family helped me a lot, some people don’t have that luxury. Or housing, or ability to pay for medications and treatment.
I’m working on a new team right now, and am hopeful that my care will be better than it has in the past
