Trying out ziprasidone

The worst for me is the physical withdrawal sensations. I end up shaking by like 4 PM (I take the evening dose at 7). It is definitely better split for me. You are taking the same dose as me, currently.

Yeah I take it at 7 and 7 but some days I sleep in til 9 with no repercussions and some days I have an early dinner at 5. Iā€™m stepping down probably next month to 20 and 20 and I am nervous about it. Historically that has been when I start to go bananas. But I have my new med now.

what is your new med your taking?

It is a very experimental one so Iā€™m hesitant to say on the forum. My doctor thinks it will work in my specific case, but probably not in many others, and I donā€™t want people going ā€œwell Ninjastar tried it so obviously I should tooā€ and having it turn out badly. There is a specialist consultant in my area who has a reputation for finding the exact right combo of head meds for every person in two visits. I shelled out the big bucks to see him, and now I am on the slow process of making the changes.

I hope its an antipsychotic at least, otherwise psychosis is likely.

@Ninjastar do you have any tips for daytime sedation? I find even 20mg can be a bit sedating in the early hours. I tried 40mg in the morning but that was a bit much for sedation. I just have caffeine.

does the morning dose sedation ever become less over time?

The sedation lessened for me after about 2 or 3 months. I canā€™t tolerate more than 20 mg in the morning, still. When I was taking 80 mg I had to split it into 20 mg and 60 mg because 40 and 40 just made me dizzy and exhausted all the time.

My big advice, trying to remember 7 years ago, would be five or more alarms, coffee, and forcing yourself to be physically active during the day. I had a physically demanding job to keep me up. Napping or even just being inactive will lead to not sleeping at night, which will make daytime sleepiness even worse. Sleep longer at night if you need to. I still do. I went from needing 6 hours a night to needing 9.

Awesome thank you for sharing advice. I will try to be more active during the work hours and avoid naps. My new job is 60% sedentary 40% physical. Ill just add some jumping jacks in periodically :athletic_shoe:
Im pretty good with the morning alarms and coffee

Whats strange with this med is I went from sleeping 10-12hrs a day waking up groggy to 7-8hrs a day and waking up refreshed. its just when I take the 20mg in morning after a few hours I feel a bit heavy limbs feeling.

I know the feeling. It does go away. Or, at least, it did for me. Be careful if you need to drive. When I was first on geodon, I would get sleep attacks sometimes. I learned that eating the full 500 calorie meal helped stave off the sleepiness until I was safely at work, and the exhaustion wore off in a couple hours as long as i kept moving. I would perk back up at lunch, and could safely drive again by the time I had to go home. I would take my pill at 7, arrive at work around 7:30 feel sleepy around 9, feel alert around 11, drive home at 3:30.

In the evening, that was the dangerous one. I had juat started dating Mr. Star. On our second date, I had dinner, he turned on a movie, and I woke up at 6 AM. I knew he was the one though, because I woke up with a blanket, a pillow, and the door locked with him on the other side. He just wanted me to feel safe. Another time, I went to a party at my friendā€™s, and fell asleep on the couch at like 8 pm. That time I woke up covered in a pile of everyoneā€™s clothes because my friends thought it would be a great prank if I thought I slept through an orgy. If you decide to do an evening activity, plan not to drive.

@shutterbug if Iā€™m remembering, you take ziprasidone in 10 mg doses, right? How does one obtain that dose? Do you have to go to a special pharmacy? Mine only carries down to 20 mg.

You guys have been together nearly as long as me and Mr. Star! Congrats on the move!

I looked into that, I figured maybe you had to just empty out half the capsule for a 10mg dose, but it would be a bit of a challenge to be very accurate I think.
