Trying EMDR

Has anyone here ever tried EMDR? (Eye Movement De-sensitize and Re-processing).

It works by crossing the left and right hemispheres of the brain, while recalling powerful trauma memories. The idea is to ring the emotion out of the memory, so that the memory no longer has so much power over you. Trauma is what has caused my schizophrenia, I have no doubt.

I am holding out some hope for it, and the practitioner seems quite positive that she could help me. I’ve got my fingers crossed. Has anyone else explored this form of therapy?

Wishing you all well

I know my cousin who has also Sz did EMDR but didn’t help. She also did it against the advice of her pdoc who said the therapy is not suited for those who experience psychosis.

It helped greatly with the trauma side of my illness but not my schizoaffective. I did it in the mid 90s when it was still new, and I know from a friend doing it now that the process has improved greatly.

Good luck.

Edited to add - if you have headphones look into bilateral stimulation music on YouTube or Spotify. Same idea, and I use it regularly. My favorites are Jorge Henderson Collazo and Liborio Conti but there’s others.

Thanks for the feedback @anon39736208 . That gives me hope. I will definitely check out the bilateral stimulation on youtube, that sounds very interesting

Hey @daydreamer !! I’m doing pretty good. Yeah I’ve been working on a couple of tunes. One for the band, and one of my own. How have you been keeping?

Well apart from getting covid and tonsillitis recently i’m ok, i have pretty bad fatigue as well and I think I’m going to chat to my dr about it soon.

But apart from that I’m keeping busy with my clubhouse and I had a painting featured in an art exhibition recently.

I also started a class at my radio station and I’m expected to rap some bars this Thursday lol, have taken a break from broadcasting atm as well.

Sorry to hear you’re having problems. They seem to come in clusters, don’t they? Do you think the fatigue could be part of covid? I hope you don’t have it too bad

Hey, congrats on the painting exhibition. I hope it went over well. I made exactly one painting in my life, LOL and it never saw exhibit

I’m sure you’ll do well rapping, you’re a natural !

Thanks @bluebutterfly it seems worth a whirl, I have nothing to lose at this point. So how have you been doing?

Sleepless tonight and as you know i have to be aware of that

Otherwise im fine. Im picking up some spanish words and grammar on “Duolingo” for my coming trip to La Gomera.

And i have been out fishing for mackerels, but no luck, i was there at midday, and they are mostly near the coast at sunset or sundown.

It makes sense for you to deal with your traumas. I really hope it works, even it sounds strange

@bluebutterfly Hey man, I hope you have a great time in La Gomera. You’ve been there several times I think you said?

Fishing is something I haven’t done in a very long time. I used to love fishing for speckles in a small stream where I used to live. Still fond memories. I went fishing for mackerel on a boat when I was a kid. Caught quite a few fish, but then I puked from the motion sickness, lol. Never been back

Yes, traditional talk therapy just doesn’t seem to work for trauma. All it does is overwhelm me, but it’s not gone and comes back still. I’ve got my fingers crossed for EMDR

Thanks, and yes i know La Gomera in and out and rented a very nice flat with a big kitchen and free wifi. It’s a nice progressive island with a decent kind of tourism compared to Tenerife and the other islands.

You are not the only one where talk therapy don’t work. I just read a paper, where the conclusion was that people with sz dont get much out of talk therapy. It might be because therapy is invented and structured about normies way of thinking and their life crisis.

Hope you have a great time. I’m sure you will. I’m a little envious, I could use some time in a tropical Paradise.

I agree. I think talk therapy really only suits normal people, who are going through difficult times. I have a head injury, PTSD and of course schizophrenia. It really doesn’t help me a lot
