Itās not an exaggeration to say the NHS in the UK is a hugely important part of my life and has helped me so much and my debt to society because of this public system and service is huge.
I wish USA could create something of this nature for their citizens
Cant say that I disagree with the sentiment on that one. Whether or not it will amount to anything, IDK>
Its similar here in Australia. I probably would rarely take meds if they cost me lots of money. So im thankful that i only have to pay a small fee for prescription meds here. And i wouldnt ever go to psych wards if they charged for my stay there. It seems the welfare system here probably saved me a lot of trouble. Its definitely far from perfect, though. But its something.
I think the situation is that USA insurance pays for meds at huge prices until the patent runs out.
Many non USA health authorities will only approve meds if they can obtain them at a minimal cost, often near wholesale price. The drug companies make their profits, and fund drug development for a lot of the world, on high USA drug prices. The high USA drug prices are a drag on the USA economy that many other countries do not have to contend with.
It is easier for a health authority to provide cheap meds if they obtain them at low prices.
I hope Trumps antics donāt effect my pension plan. Heāll probably cause it to go down in value
Trumps āanticsā are to try and lower our prescription costs. And thatās a wonderful thing!
I understand why this would be an interesting article. Please keep politics out of it. Iām only posting this as a reminder as that can happen with articles mentioning the president of the United States.
Here for 100 tabletās of Metformin 500mg cost 250 rupees.
I just googled it shows 2200 rupees in USA ![]()
The medical system in the US assumes everyone has health insurance and bills accordingly. The problem is when people donāt have it.
Very true insurance is rare here, we are not covered in insurance for any meds only emergency one can claim insurance.
That to we need to get admitted in emergency if not they donāt cover
There are flaws in what is covered and how much coverage you actually recieve even if you do have insurance.
I love the fact that he said this, but getting pharma companies to budge will require much more than reprimand. It will require substancial change in policies that they will fight every step of the way.
Iām glad that there is some frustration across party lines regarding the ridiculous cost of medications in the US now.
So far, Trump is using all his power to get TV hosts fired, strong arm universities, and impose impossibly high tariffs on our friends. Iād like to see him stop being a bully and use real power to get these drug prices down.
Wow, actually doing something productive. At this point itās kinda like someone beating the ever living ā ā ā ā out of you then buying you pancakes afterwards
LockIng thread since reminder to avoid politics was not heeded.
