Tissue Engineering:Scientists create 3D-printed brain-like tissue from stem cells

The research takes us a step closer to making replacement brain tissue derived from a patient’s own skin or blood cells to help treat conditions such as brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy and schizophrenia.

The problem with stem cells derived from sz patients is that it will produce faulty neuronal structures. Otherwise it would be “as simple as” injecting our own iPSCs from skin cells.

What that means…???

What do u mean?

I meant to say that stem cells aren’t good for Sz…

Happy cakeday!!

Stem cells are good. They could be the cure we are looking for. But stem cells from our own skin cells are going to produce faulty neuronal structures. So we need stem cells from healthy donors.

Are they looking for healthy doners …??? But i know the project for stem cell for sz havent yet started… holy cow…!!!

They say it will be helpful for Sz…???

IDK @far_cry0 i was just wondering…

What they should do is work in the connectome of these artificial brains.

Stem cells to cure sz hasnt started indeed. And as far as donors go, they are working on universal donors to produce healthy iPSCs.

Is this a reason why they havent started stem cell for Sz…!!! Are they accepting healthy Ipscs from normal people…!!!

One of the reasons indeed. From normal ppl it wouldnt work, due to the risk of rejection of the stem cells. It needs to be healthy universal donors. Or reengineering cells pf sz patients and make them healthy stem cells.

Some of these new technologies are going to challenge some of our previous beliefs. They are saying that genetic technology will be able to let us eliminate inherited diseases in the not so distant future. Of course we should do that. It would be cruel not to. But what if genetic engineering allows us to cure mental retardation, or just a low IQ? It’s not such a leap from there to get to a point where we might start customizing our brains to have high IQ’s. There are tons of other situations where where it is just a small step from basic medicine to custom genes. What if genetic engineering gives us regenerative powers - like the ability to regrow amputated limbs? It’s not such a leap from there to genetically engineer the powerful legs of a track star.

This (Sz) is really a complex… are we unlucky…???

Thats the future we are moving towards. Science will progress no matter what,if we oppose it it might delay things but eventually it will happen. Whole society with some basic minimum IQ would be a possibility. Just hope all these advances happen quickly enough so that we would get cured soon.
