Things I'd like to know please

Can people with schizophrenia or psychotic depression have normal jobs? New to my own illnesses so I’d like to know. And if so, what types of issues could arise? I have terrible short-term memory and occasionally move slow, not sure if it has to do with it, though. I get anxiety about being under pressure/having to move fast paced.

Please and thank you.

i have job i been ill for 8 years so far i finished university with great stress and after i failed many many times nearly every year in 2 years
the only thing that helped me obtain and preserve a job is being faithful in god and pray usually
and of course take medication as prescribed

I think it’s possible for people like us to have normal jobs, but the most beneficial would be the ones with low stress, as stress can make symptoms worse.

What kind of job is it, if I may know?

Thank you for your comment.

I have run my own business for 21 years now with both, but i work in a industry that somewhat helps, if I worked for someone I would have been fired

Thank you, Good to know. What stresses me out is the requirement of being fast paced and having good memorization skills… I work at a cafe.

Wow, that’s pretty amazing. Any tips on how you accomplish that?

Thank you for your comment.

I think it would be hard, but there are probably a few high functioning schizophrenics who can do that.

I’ve held down jobs before I got really bad. I think the key is finding the right meds and keeping stress relatively low to keep a job.

I only work 4 hours per day in a school kitchen. I used to work more before kids, but now I have to run them around everywhere. When I was freshly diagnosed, I worked 8 hours a day. I think my job was pretty easy and predictable. Working in a kitchen, I did the same thing everyday, not many changes came up. I think I was awful sleepy though. Maybe find something for a few hours and work your way up as you feel more comfortable. Sometimes i’m Amazed at what I do now, 20 years later. You will be able to work, just take it slow.
