Theory-Is Schizophrenia a Sleep Disorder?

You’re very precise @chew  I imagine your response in a German accent.

I always figured this was due to high levels of dopamine (which by the way insomnia or issues with sleep can cause) doing damage to the frontal cortex–>i.e. Lowered cognitive function and impulse control. Mix that with anger/depression and you can get a very violent person. Though drugs that cause high levels of dopamine sometimes also lead to aggression…

Also if someone is in a dream-like state they are also likely to be less-impeded. I have demonstrated incredible violence in my dreams that I would never perpetrate in real life. What if I lost the distinction between the two?

One of the ways I hear voices is when I automatically blink rapidly, like in REM sleep.

This hadn’t happened for a while, but after visiting family started again. In addition to hearing quieter voices without REM whilst in bed or out and about.

I don’t know my dreams have a lot more variety than my psychosis. My psychosis is always following certain themes.

I have a theory that sleep apnea may play a role in schizophrenia.

It’s already known that sleep apnea causes anxiety disorders.

Even a slight disruption of oxygen to the brain can cause all sorts of problems.

I think it’s a disease of cognition. And a developmental disorder

I was diagnosed with a developmental coordination disorder (dyspraxia) as a child.
