So I went down from 900 mg Seroquel to 800 mg s 4 days ago without getting positives. Maybe I could get even lower in the near future.
I wouldn’t taper to fast. Lower and slower
Blimey that is still a hell of a dose to take. Taking a bet your not in the uk, cos there is no way here you would get that amount prescribed, unless your in a secure unit.
It only takes 300mg for the anti-psychotic properties to take effect.
And ive been on the stuff for 9 years.
Besides of that I’m also on one of the world’s best depots Clopixol LAI 500 mgs every 3 weeks. So every 3 week when I get the depot I’m going to ask to lower with 100 mgs until I down to 600 mgs Seroquel after 6 weeks.
Surprised you manage to get out of bed in the morning then lol.
They dont usually prescribe 2 Ap’s at a time, especially with clozapine.
If I didn’t take quetiapine I would get dreadfull insomnia. I’m working close together with my treatment team and only lower if they think that it’s a good idea. please remember that Seroquel is one of the very soft antipsychotics that cause very few side effects. For the more hard to treat positives I’m relying on the Clopixol.
Fair comment on your post. But i know plenty of people that cannot tolerate Quetiapine and get restless leg syndrome.
Its a marmite drug - you either love it or hate it lol.
Whatever works for you mate. Personally i could not be arsed with the blood tests for being on the drug lol. x
That’s a high dose. I was on 600 for a couple years and eventually someone took me way down from that.
I think it sounds heavy handed to do more than 100. Less is more with that drug if you ask me. Did they start you that high?
My psychiatrist put me on it for my wretched insomnia. And when I say I have insomnia that’s the understatement of the century. Twice a month I just skip sleep and stay up 48 hours to reset my schedule. Still, it was risky because there’s the risk of developing TD movements. I also ate ravenously on the drug.
I think it’s a good thing to taper to see if it helps you out to be on 600.
When I was at my worst I was on 300 mgs Clopixol depot each week and 30 mg Clopixol tablets as needed with 240 mgs of Ziprasidone in a period of 5 years.
So yes I consider 500 mgs Clopixol 3 weeks with 800 mgs of Seroquel to be a low dose.
I have lived independently for 25 years and only gotten admitted to the mental ward 8 times during that period.
I’m the caretaker of my mother who has gotten Schizophrenia aswell.
@columbus Be cautious and slow and safe about reducing your seroquel if you do so. I wish you the best of course. I was on 800 mg seroquel when I took it. My dr believed that that was a good dose and it was helpful for me for a long time.
I was on Serquel for a couple of years, they tried to put me back on it and it gave me tachycardia.
Oh my, you have a lot of responsibility. I can see why you are taking it slow.
I’m not familiar with Clopixol. I was about to try Clozapine after years of failed antipsychotics, but landed on Zyprexa just before and had good results with it, so there was no need.
There’s a good deal of responsibilities taking care of your old mum so I don’t know if I want any ajustments yet.
Very good
Zyprexa was working but I was gaining weight very rapidly
So I got on Clozaril
But soon after I got tachycardia, and needed a beta blocker on top of it to slow down my heart rate
Now trying to get off the clozapine! After 10 years I really hope the tachycardia would go away since it was induced by the Clozaril
I have to much to loose by going below 800 mgs Qutiapine as thats the lowest dose of antipsychotics Ive been taking for two decades. The problem is that I Can not get admitted if something goes wrong because my mother depends on that I buy grosseries for here once a week cause she Can barely walk.
Most people can tolerate a 20-30% reduction on maintenance dosage. Since you’re on a high dosage it is possible you could eventually reduce it even more then that.
I wouldn’t recommend reducing it more then 10% a month
That’s what I did for this month a reduction of 10 % (from 900 to 800). I relapsed for 8 hours yesterday so I’ll keep 800 mg seroquel. Seems what is max for others is min for me.
Yeah personally I noticed I was fine the first couple of days then around the 2 week mark things start to get a bit weird and then at the 4 weeks mark your past the worst of it. But everyone is different
I’m satisfied with coming down on 800 mg Seroquel and getting 500 mgs Clopixol every 3 week. Murphy 1. law. if something can go wrong it will go wrong. Murphys 2. law never touch a running system.
I’ve got nothing more to add
And it did go wrong. Felt miserable and returned to 900 mgs Seroquel. Don’t like that feeling so ain’t going to tapper anymore. If you feel well why swap that with.feeling bad.
