My sister who is a nurse told me that a mentally ill person can designate another to be his/her spokesperson, i.e. someone who speaks for them when they are unable. I personally haven’t found anyone in my family or outside of it who I could trust. My brother comes close but he is a big head honcho in his company and lacks the time.
I’m in Australia but back when mum was alive I got her to be my advocate. Mum used to work for social security so knew the legislation inside and out and it was convenient for me to have her deal with the government. Sadly, with mums passing, I’m back doing it all but I’ve been on the pension for years now so it’s all pretty easy.
