The reality of schizophrenia and university is that your grade may not reflect your effort at all!

Upper Second division also known as 2:1 - Is the second highest grade in the UK classification system. In most places, except one school. It is ranked 60% and above but in my school though, it’s ranked as 70%.

I’m worried that I won’t get it. In my economics degree, I ranked at 50% in the end, so if stats are anything to go by. I’m going to miss it by a huge margin. I know they’re not though. But realistically, I don’t see myself managing 70% anymore because my mood is so volatile and my work ethic despite being 100% materialises as 50%. Things like regular study routine just is not possible. It’s always a case of feel motivated - study but if not, don’t - which weighs heavier.

You could have a decent problem solving ability but if you have a bad practice ability. You just won’t be prepared quickly enough! It’s intense

Have faith in yourself. Those with schizophrenia nowadays do far better at getting degrees compared to those of us diagnosed in our late teens in the 1970s. That’s a good thing. It’s progress.

Can you get a tutor to help you? Some schools that I know of offer free tutoring services. Another possibility is to study with a group of other students where you can help each other study for tests and assignments.

Does your school offer accommodations? They may give you accommodations like letting you take tests in a room by yourself so you can concentrate better and not get distracted. I got my two year degree in 2023, I did a lot of it online and I never used accommodations until my last two classes. On timed tests I got double the time to take each test, that helped a lot, especially on the final.

This might sound strange. But sometimes the tutors don’t even bother responding to you

This is despite being fully aware you are a “disabled” student.

I know it sounds like I’m being ungrateful, and that there has been progress. But people are still really judgemental and not always kindly

I do have accommodations like extra time. And I can access tutoring too. But like I say, some tutors don’t even respond :sob:

That is strange. You don’t need discrimination, you need more help than other students because you’re disabled.

@77nick77 I do have one friend though. And they have proved really helpful for me to feel more engaged with the course; I hope that since I’m less isolate and can speak to them about physics - it might inspire me more

This can only be a good thing

Yeah, I would pursue that. Good luck.

It’s super hit/miss. Because some Tutors go ABOVE and beyond to help which is very handy

I used a tutor, the tutoring was online by appointment, there were like 5 or 6 tutors volunteering their time in different subjects and they gave 1 hour time slots.

What program are you in now? You switched a lot right?

I’m tempted to hire a paid tutor. But finding one of quality is difficult, I tried a tutor last yr and they were abysmal. Maybe I need to find tutors who are more experienced (the seniors)

Starlet has this problem. In his school, that’s because the tutors are students who are getting paid as tutors but mght not want to do the work. He’s had some luck with messaging them again, and CCing the professor. Something like “hey, just following up on tutoring. I have CCed Prof Lastname in case they have suggestions of topics to cover in our sessions.” That way the student tutor knows they will have to actually do the work to get paid. This does not make him any friends, but does get him the help he needs.

I think we schizophrenics should cherish our ambition and motivation. It’s rare with us and I think if we do have it it’s more likely to be intrinsic and fulfilling if we pursue it.
