How I think about an interest to the occult is just like an interest to trains or something. If somebodies interested in it, they can always learn more about it, and if it’s their passion, they should make a career out of it!
However a lot of people are sensitive towards this topic. I think it really does depend on your upbringing.
Usually people raised around religion are more afraid of ‘punishment’ or whatever else.
I was raised by a witch, so it’s all a walk in the park for me.
I have a very limited knowledge of Magick, from the Golden Dawn/Crowley point of view. I bought some books by Crowley and tried to get into them, but i just wasn’t that into it.
I think his Magick used a lot of references to what some call Pagan gods and the occult. But it seemed that his Magick was more ritual, archetypes, allegory and symbolism. These were used in an attempt to focus the will and cause events to occur in conformity with his will. I think the occult thing was more of an abstract than any weird religious thing. It was simply a method to focus on whatever task you want to accomplish and get it done.
You can say everything you do in life is Magick. Or art. There are many ways to describe your way of seeing things without getting too caught up in it and any hidden implications.
I hope this helps. Maybe you should stay away from stuff that gets too intense for you to handle. But I don’t think you should ever beat yourself up too much over stuff like this either.
Wish you the best @Montezuma. Keep jamming those tunes, just stick to what’s comfortable!
Some things weird me out but occult stuff isn’t one of them. I can see the attraction and I can see where it can be problematic for those with schizophrenia. I guess it’s a lot about moderation. If it’s triggering you and making you feel worse then it’s something you don’t want to deal with!
It’s good you can recognize your triggers. That is a great thing in the scheme of things. Take it easy and just move onto other things. I always found a positive thing is a good replacement to something negative in your life! I like to drink beer. That isn’t so good for me so instead of a beer I’ll replace it with some exercise! That helps no end!
