The Metamorphosis - SZ interpretation

I read the novella The Metamorphosis by Kafka in my mid twenties. The first impression I actually had of it was that it was about mental illness, I suppose sz. I have read some interpretations of the work and most if not all are by literary critics so there is a noise of references to artistic styles and French words and things like that which I find more haughty than insightful. My interpretation was based on the experience I had of being a young adult with a young sister and a mom and dad like Gregor Samsa who were much inconvenienced by having a sick son. Things like incomprehensible language came from his room and having poor hygiene, inability to work, subject to domestic violence/ abuse, and in reference to his bodily form: being considered lowly. It possible Gregor was not really a bug, that just was a kind of dsymorphic delusion, and his treatment by others was just that of normals to a sz. Thinking about sz or MI when reading the book seems to be the most obvious interpretation in my opinion, but might not be so obvious to someone who has not been sick in this way.

Kafka almost burned all his works upon dying, but a friend saved them.
yeah, did you ever see the movie The Fly, it might be out dating you. it was a real guy though,
don’t think with Kafka it was.

I saw the fly when I was a kid maybe 6 years old, Jeff Goldblum was in it and all I remember was him being a giant fly. I have no idea what it is about.

i think the story is a guy who is trying to make a teleportation thingy and he goes through it at some point and he goes together with a fly without knowing it and then he starts to change into a giant fly.

Oh ok that seems like a meaningless story to me. Atleast with Kafkas work there is a realization where metaphor connects with reality and the symbolism becomes an expression of the experience or whatever. Maybe in the fly teleportation is a mad idea and the guy becomes more mad and then it’s the same story as the metamophosis, I don’t know haven’t seen it as an adult

what about Edward Scissorhands?
never did see that one.
just strange. he must have planted that himself. don’t know.

I have no idea about Edward Scissorhands, maybe just a concept about a guy with scissors for hands from a creepy place trying to adjust to the world. Literary criticism might say something that edward scissor hands is about the difference between the old world artisan and the modern industrial suburb society. I have no interest in literary/ art criticism really.
