The legend of why we eat black eyed peas on New Year's Day

During the plundering of the North in the South states after the Civil War, they took everything to eat except they didn’t know what black eyed peas were so they left those and that’s what the south states lived on for a while…there ya go…it’s supposed to be good luck to eat black eyed peas for New Year’s Day.

Didn’t know that!

We have pork and sauerkraut for New Years Day. It’s a traditional meal for my family, and is also supposed to be good luck

Haven’t eaten black eyed peas in years.
Not since my childhood when my Mom was alive

Can someone tell me what black eyed peas are?

@Hanna_Foxx they are more of a bean than a pea…they are beige in color except for a black area near the center of the bean…taste unique…just buy a can and add some ham and cooked onion with it…delicious.
