With Covid still rampant, it might be best to celebrate small this year – if you even celebrate at all. I’ll just be with my folks for New Years. My mom is making prime rib on NYE, then pork and sauerkraut on New Year’s Day. How about you? Will you celebrate the New Year in any fashion?
I don’t know. We usually have Chinese food.
I’ll watch the ball drop with the kids. I do every year. But I don’t go out. Too many drunks on the road
Chinese food sounds awesome for New Years.
Are they doing the ball drop this year? I thought I heard they canceled it maybe. Not sure. But if it is still happening, I’ll try to stay up and watch it, too.
And yeah, I avoid the roads, as well.
I have not done anything for new years for a long time.
About 3 years ago I went to Reykjavik, Iceland with my cousin, and that was pretty cool to visit there.
Most times, I refuse to do anything.
It works out ok though, as I can look after my parents dog as she hates fireworks.
Iceland would be badass to visit in the winter. Sounds fun.
I’ll be gone on new years eve because that’s one of the few times I love to get drunk and talk to my best friends at midnight…
1 in a hundred get sz in the western civilization. My best friends bd is on on every first of new years. , but all my friends are best and have something special.
Oh no! I hope they don’t cancel the ball drop!
I think I heard/read that the ball drop was canceled, but yeah, not 100% sure. NYE just won’t be the same without it
No it won’t. What a bummer!
My family has a traditional meal of collard greens and black eyed peas on New Year’s Day. It’s a southern thing, symbolizing prosperity in the new year, i think.
Oh Charlie Brown you are so cute.
black eyed peas are eaten on new years day for good luck because after the northern soldiers in the civil war took everything away from the southern people all there was left to eat was black eyed peas because the northern soldiers didn’t know you could eat them.
@anon49063606, I just read an article that it will be done virtually this year so it’s not entirely cancelled
I didn’t know that. I knew pork and sauerkraut on New Years Day was a traditional meal, symbolizing good luck for the year. But I didn’t know collards and black eyed peas was also considered good luck.
nothing special for me this new year’s eve. i will struggle to stay awake until midnight, as i’ve been going to bed early these days. it will just be me and dad hanging out, probably with a fire going inside, mom is going to be out of town this year for new year’s. it will be kinda uneventful. new years used to be my favorite holiday but i havent been to a bar in over 10 years now so it’s not as fun anymore. the neighbors usually shoot off fireworks at midnight, which sucks when you’re trying to sleep. so i will stay up until that happens.
Cool. I hope there will still be some festivities, but nothing crazy. Similar to the Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Parade
Yeah, that would be great
