Oh phooey. Maybe they work for cognition at lower doses, but no one is thinking in a straight line when on a high dose of most APs. The cognitive drag is significant.

I agree cognitive funtion is decreased due to AP use. Some AP’S I was on gave me the attention span of a child.

My greatest area of cognitive difficulty from as far back as I can remember, certainly pre any signs of mental illness, has been to do with organising and planning . Prioritising the order in which things are done when it comes to a multistep task is far harder for me than doing a high range IQ test.

No dose of AP I’ve been on, be it high, medium,or low, has lessened that difficulty. It’s not a difficulty the effect of which you can avoid once you’ve left school.

I had poverty of thought on risperdal and although it brought me out of psychosis pretty quickly it just wasn’t for me. I moved to zyprexa and heard all the horror stories here about it but have thrived on it since even after moving away to try abilify.

It’s a crap shoot with the dopamine blockers. It really is.
