NAC didn’t work out for me. It seemed to interact with abilify to make it less effective. So be careful if you try it.
The study is tiny, with only 20 patients and 20 control persons. Furthermore, it’s a Russian study, and as a Russian I’m sorry to say that do not trust the current quality of Russian research. I wish someone ran a really huge study of NAC.
N-acetylcysteine gave me severe negative symptoms while I was on it. They went away again as soon as I stopped it, I only took it for a few weeks.
My doctor wants me too take a lot of this stuff as it shows promise in treating trichotillomania and she feels that is somehow related to excoriation disorder which I’m suffering from. I’m going to try it, but I appreciate that I’ve been forewarned. I’m not holding my breath anyway, I feel there’s no hope for me.
NAC gave me terrible itching and I was sweating a lot. It didn’t help with anything.
