This has been my latest tactic I have been working on. When Iโm laying down and hearing voices and whatnot, Iโll try my best to call up random and interesting images in my mind, after a few images it kind of goes on autopilot and I quit thinking and just get lost for a while. It always reduces the volume of my voices as the visual stuff takes all my focus and the audio processing basically gets suspended.
There Is a form of meditation that works on that. You stick to just one pleasant place\ spot though and just focus in on that. Can be as elaborate and frivolous as something like a magical garden on the moon. Anything will do just as long as you find it pleasant and relaxing. I think the idea is after practise and dedication you can just recall that scene at any time and instant peace.
I learned from Tolle, Kabat-Zinn, Chodron, Hayes, Tart, Deikman, Levine, Somov, Marra and I canโt remember who all else to focus my attention directly onto the Voice of the Moment, listen carefully to what it is saying without identifying with it, feel any related emotions without identifying with them, and see any images that come up without getting sucked into any drama. Might take a couple of minutes to do so. Then go do something else, even if the Voice is still yacking. Sooner of later, the Voice goes away, and I didnโt do anything stupid.
