I finally took Notmoses’ advice and went to the library and took out two books that he suggests and I just got finished reading the first one in line -
"Surviving Schizophrenia A Family Manual"
by E. Fuller Torrey M.D.
and I have to say I am more than impressed.
It confirms the fact of my diagnosis that was given in 1986 by Dr. Sklan M.D. and Dr. Rohr M.D., and then reconfirmed in 2004 by Dr. Costas M.D. -
Bipolar Disorder Type I Manic Type with Psychotic Features.
I thought I had it bad, but I am in awe of the suffering that people with schizophrenia experience.
In one way I am relieved to find that I don’t have schizophrenia, and in another way I am very sad that so many people suffer so terribly. And knowing that others have it worse than me does not make my illness any better either. I would do anything to take away that kind of pain - so surreal and otherworldly. I have only had brief glimpses into that place - my problems pale in comparison.
I want to personally thank Notmoses for his vigilance in repeatedly posting links to the material I mentioned above. It is of impeccable quality and accuracy, and scientific reliability. Most importantly it comes from a place of reason and not superstition or myth. It speaks from long experience and the expertise of a real professional. Surviving Schizophrenia has my full endorsement as among the best tools for those whose lives and families have been affected by major mental illnesses.
It is a great book! Sorry to hear that you suffer as well. Our diagnoses may be different but MI in all it’s forms is a terrible beast. Hang in there!!
At least one of them is complete garbage. The 10 StEPs crap he’s been slinging around? It’s not a real therapy – it’s a rehash of AA’s 12 Steps he made up himself and has been fobbing off on people as a legit ‘therapy’. He has lost all credibility with me and I think he is a discussion troll who should be banned for preying on SZs.
Although I own it and have referenced it many times, I tend to also agree that it left a lot out, symptom wise. I had to go online to identify the rest. I think sz is too complicated to fill the pages of just one book, so much is left out of any attempt.

surviving schizophrenia has a lot of little things but the bigs guns are missing, searching for schizophrenia elsewhere I was able to give a name to my symptoms, the book only left me more confused.
I had difficulties with Notmoses in the past, but I am willing to let that go. What Notmoses’ motives are are a mystery to me. But I will say that this book has been a great benefit to me, and it was his post that led me to it. If he had been banned, I might not have found it.
The book is linked on the main schizophrenia.com site, which contains a multitude of helpful resources. Definitely take some time to go through it if you haven’t already.

I’m not always the best judge of character Pixel. I say it like my mom does - she says “Do I have ‘gullible’ written on my forehead?” Its worse online. I try to be vigilant, but I don’t always know how to conduct myself over the net. Especially because I’m something of a dinosaur with computers. Perhaps I’m thanking the wrong guy - I don’t know. But I am glad that I read the book, it helped me tremendously.
We’ve had enough fighting here over the past couple of weeks so I’m just closing this to prevent another outbreak.
