Yeah, I knew of his story already but that’s an interesting video. I think I read the operating system he invented was as good as Apple, Windows or Linus.

Linus really isnt that high of a target. PigPen or Snoopy are much loftier goals. :astonished:.

No, it was limited and quite useless. Reviewers were only polite about it to avoid kicking a man who was obviously down.

His goal wasn’t to make an OS like Windows or Linux. He was trying to create a modern day Commodore 64 that runs on 64-bit x86. Also he thought it was the third temple. It had no features like networking because it is a toy OS.

Oh, Wikipedia made it sound pretty good.

It’s not made for normal use it’s a passion project. He designed his own programming language variant of C, built the compiler for it, built the OS with it, the terminal used a JIT Holy C compiler for use in the terminal. made tons of games and programs. It’s extremely impressive but it’s more of a work of art.

OK, yeah, I don’t really know a lot about operating systems or even about computers in general.

No worries I’m a geek.

You have to be a fan of that type of art. I’m not.

Thanks for the replies!

I just wanted to share. Ya, I never used Temple OS (don’t plan on it) but the skill and accomplishment, and he had schizophrenia. I heard about him through a friend who was a software engineer who told me to look him up so I did. His story is unique and fascinated me.

He definitely was controversial.

Ya, I also heard it’s not secure at all and couldn’t connect to the internet. Is that true?

I don’t understand the point of building things that aren’t useful.

It’s fun, like digital legos.

You cannot please everyone in life. It’s still a monumental feat. I’m sure people will add to the OS in the future. Some people get uses out of everything, others not so much. It’s a personal choice as long as it doens’t hurt anyone.

His biggest issue was his racism, but I still respect him as a person, and he’s gone. I mean, he was a unique person or genius. We can all relate to MI or MH issues in life. He’s still one of us.

Terry Davis was really unik.To Create an OS and holy C compiler i so difficult to do that only a Genious could accomplish that. From what I`v learned was Terry on antipsychotic meds for most of his life and lived by his parents. But the last years of his life he decided not to take antipsychotics no more so his parents saw no other solution than to send him out of there house. He died in the State of Origon if I got it right. No one knows if he died by accident or suicide.

I remember a funny video on you tube where he explained why a switch case was better than an if then.
Something about a switch case was organised as a look up table with an execution time of O(1) or constant execution time.

If often said that he was the best programmer in the world. But I think that he was the best Schizophrenic programmer that has ever lived.

No worries we all have our opinions.

This reminds me of a scene in the movie “Oscar” where Tim Curry says something like “YOu’ve got a dangling participle there” and the guy looks down to check his fly.
