Talking to AI feels weird

I heard about this app that kind of markets itself as like a friend to talk to for lonely people. Its basically chatgpt but has more personal responses I guess (not sure how to describe it). I was curious and tried it out, but it does feel creepy. Do you think its pointless to use AI chatbots as a way to fill a need to socialize? What are your thoughts on this kind of chatbot app?

Here’s a couple “conversations” for example

I don’t think it’ll replace a genuine person. Talking is a skill in itself and not sure what your going to learn from an AI program even when the tech gets better. Like talking to real people is something I like to do because everyone is different.

Perhaps look at hobbies or shared interests and get out there and learn how to converse with others???

That’s a great point. I do have trouble finding in person social groups near me. I live in a rural area and there’s not a ton of them around me. I find talking to people online a little anxiety inducing which I realize is kind of ridiculous. I don’t think this will replace human interaction either.

Yeah internet chat can be hit and miss but there’s communities with things like online games etc if your a gamer and isolated. I know it’s hard. I like my alone time but I’m used to people. I think it helps as you have to think quickly and on your feet so to speak so being able to talk to others is a very good skill. I don’t think you’ll learn too much from an algorithym just quite yet.
