Talked to my peer support worker

today. He is very, very into music. Blues music specifically. And I was spouting to him my usual spiel about how I sucked at piano performance and how I could not make songs sound like the original performance.

He suggested to me that I don’t sound like the original artist because I have my own voice and style. And that this is not necessarily worse than the original but may in fact be better. This was an epiphany for me. Although my teacher, my partner and my friends all say I play too slow.

Many minds have come along to improve on the original. Rimsky-Korsakov was noted for rearranging other people’s works.
