Taking off my AD

Currently on 50mg of Sertraline. But I’m going to take it off entirely by the end of the year. Last time this happened was this year in March and it wasn’t great but I just want to try again. I don’t like to be on too many meds. Just the AP is fine by me (Abilify)

Good luck.

Talk with your pdoc first, don’t try cutting it out yourself.

Went off mine cold turkey, wasn’t a good show.

I started having problems with getting annoyed easily, and crying every day.

I’m back on the 200mg.

I can’t cry at all. I can’t feel my feelings. Used to cry a lot when I was ill but not anymore.

I concur with the people above that you should talk to your doctor first before any modification regarding your medication intake. If the doc agrees that you can modify your meds, you may do so accordingly.

Many anti-psychotic medications have tons of negative, sometimes serious, effects. If you change your med intake abruptly, no matter whether it’s increase or decrease, then consequences may be serious, including lethal. If you really want to stop a certain med, please do so under the supervision and monitoring of a psychiatrist. You can only stop a med slowly, and not suddenly.

Do not try to stop a med by yourself.

I don’t intend to stop by myself. I’m going to speak to my Doctor about it and go from there. Thanks for your advice

I can’t feel emotions really either but i think its from mental illness since teenage not the meds. A while after coming off meds i get really bad and get intense anger. Just think carefully is all and good luck in whatever you decide. Im on ap because ads dont agree with me but everyones different

I’m sorry, I was not paying attention, you were talking about your anti-depressant, not the AP.

Yet the logic is similar. Different ADs function in different ways, and they may have different effects on your brain. Some of the ADs also do have some very bad, and even fatal side effects. I personally also have taken Sertraline before, although I have never had Depression. After taking it, I could feel that the med was affecting my brain, and preventing me from being able to study. Definitely not a very good experience.

In an ideal state, everyone should take as few meds as possible, meaning that people should take the minimum level of the meds, so long as they can live a relatively “normal” life and function “normally.” I have been on four anti-psychotic meds for a few years, and now I’m also attempting to decrease them, of course I also consult my psychiatrists, very frequently.

Good luck in reducing the meds!
