Stopping invega sustenna and going the natural route

I was misdiagnosed with schizophrenia and was given two shots of the invega sustenna. That is the Initial dose. I now suffer from anhedonia, loss of pleasure and interest since my last shot which was 5 months ago. I have not improved at all and I have not been taking any other meds, also my prolactin levels are high I don’t get a period anymore. I was wondering is there anyone else going through this or has experienced similar effects? How long did it take to get their emotions, interests, or even their period back to normal?

I started my period today, I guess there is some hope! I still have no emotions. Anhedonia is still present. When will my feelings come back? Has anyone recovered their feelings after stopping invega sustenna? How long did it take?

You shouldn’t stop your meds without talking to your doctor. There is no “natural” substance that has anti psychotic properties.

Talk to your doctor and try a different med if invega isn’t suiting you.

Has your doctor said you were misdiagnosed, or did you decide that on your own?

Amhedonia can be a side effect of the meds, but it can also just be a symptom of schizophrenia. If it hasn’t gone away, maybe that’s a sign you weren’t misdiagnosed after all.

I would recommend trying a different antipsychotic before trying to quit altogether. Everyone reacts differently to every antipsychotic. That’s why there are so many to choose from. I take Geodon, and my prolactin levels are not elevated. I have lost weight, my sexual functioning is normal, and I have a regular period. I also feel a full range of emotions. Before I started taking Geodon, I suffered from anhedonia in a big way. I’m not saying Geodon would have the same effect on you, but I just wanted to show you that it is possible to find a medication with few side effects if you devote the time to it. It took me ten years to find out Geodon was the drug for me.

It took years for me, but it did happen. We don’t get sick all at once and we don’t get better all at once. It’s just the nature of this illness.

I am still waiting for my period, however.

I am taking invega and I have no period and gained 40 pounds. I want to stop taking it but my doctor wont do it. I am not happy with this medication and the doctor thinks I’m doing better but I dont think I am better.

Typically, we like to leave inactive threads alone and just start a new thread instead. This is different than how some forums are run, but we do it this way because it frequently upsets users to have old topics revived when they are no longer relevant. It can also be frustrating to the person who revived the thread when they don’t get a reply, because the original poster is no longer active or no longer finds the topic relevant. Feel free to start a new thread on this topic.
