Still thinking of reducing Olanzapine

Still thinking of reducing Olanzapine from 10mg to 7.5mg what are the risks?

Is it likely that I’ll relapse from the reduction?

Should be okay shouldn’t I?

This is a decision for a doctor. I have no idea on the recommended minimum dosage for Olanzapine.

There is always a little risk when you go down on medications.

The doctor thinks I’m on 12.5mg but actually been on 10 mg for around 9 months now. So it’s a difficult situation. Would have to ask for a reduction to 10mg first. Then wait six months and ask again. Don’t think telling them the truth is an option as could effect my chances of getting a driving licence renewal in the future which I can’t risk.

You’re taking a major risk in reducing on your own without doctor supervision. I reduced on my own before and it did not end well. After I got too low I thought the medication was burning me and stopped altogether. I had a break and it took me months to work my way back.

If I were you , I would ask for reduction and wait. But I cant tell you what to do.

Just phoned my support worker and have asked for a reduction to 10mg Olanzapine. So at least that is a step in the right direction. Just waiting to hear back if the psychiatrist will need to see me in person first. It’s a step in the right direction I suppose.

How low on dosage did you go and what antipsychotic were you on? Would be interested to know, if you don’t mind me asking.

I have also had 3. I will not let myself have any more ;).

Same as me, scared of having another as the last one was dreadful. 4 months without insight and hallucinations and delusions. Really took a toll on me. Happened after I thought I was better and completely stopped Olanzapine. I used to be on 5mg Olanzapine before that and am now on 10mg. Still hoping to maybe get back to 5mg again. But would settle for 7.5 mg

Just heard back from my support worker and he’s spoken to the psychiatrist. She’s happy for me to move down to 10mg Olanzapine from 12.5mg.

As I’ve said I’ve actually been on 10mg since January. But at least I’m on the doctor’s recommended dose now. So that’s something. Feel like it’s a bit of progress…

10 mg olanzipine is the lowest dose for shiz/psychois. At least thats what I have.

There is some who are on 7.5mg but they are also on the ketogenic diet. and from what I know ketones are a more efficient brain fuel. so the medications will work better even on lower dose.

If you got schizophrenia I dont recommend going lower then the 10 mg.

Hello, this is true on the recommended dose being 10mg I believe. However I did manage 2 years on 5mg Olanzapine before I relapsed after completely stopping olanzapine.
