Last month I tried mowing both lawns and it hurt for about a week afterwards…especially arms, shoulders and wrists and hands…it’s worth the $40 bucks to have it mowed…I am still exercising and after I gain more strength I may start mowing the lawn again…
I’m a city boy, if I want to see grass I can go to a park to see it, I certainly don’t want to mow it. I’m with you pay the person the $40 and call it a day!
I’m thinking it would be shame if herbicide got spilled on the lawn. A real shame.
Must be a big lawn. When i used to mow my parents lawn it took about 1 hour to mow and weedwack it
well, it took me about ten goes at it before it was done and my heart was pounding out of my chest and I was sweating profusely even though it was 68 F. outside…then the next week after I was whincing from muscle pain in my shoulders, arms and hands.
That’s good. Is your mower self propelled? Those are way easier and you can get one for a decent price
It is like that if you let it get high and then try to cut it. Once it is cut, it’s nothing more than walking.
we have many slopes and ditches in our front yard…lots of parallel mowing up and down steep slopes…like lifting weights pulling the mower up and down the embankment…back yard the same all on a hill…big yards…
Is your mower, gas, electric, or the purgatory trainer model?
Push mowers really are a sneak preview of Hell.
mine is just a gas mower push type…very heavy to pull and push.
Save that money for having it mowed and buy a self propelled for $200. That’s what we got.
It should be manageable once you get into shape. Suggest doing a part of the yard every couple of days rather than trying to do the whole thing at once. You will toughen up and it will get easier.
Making it child-propelled and pocketing the dosh is even better.
Oh, mine is. But the sons enjoy that feature.
I used to do a lot of yard work as a kid. For $40.00 I would have mowed it for a year!
it wouldn’t matter if it was self propelled or not with my steep slopes…I would still have to do perpindicular passes up and down the slopes meaning I would have to pull the mower backward over and over…this happens in front and back yards…you guys aren’t listening to me.
We are listening. We’re saying to do it a little at a time until you get stronger.
You can do it. I mean I have degenerative back disease, psoriatic arthritis, erosive osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia and an autoimmune disorder. I still can mow and the yard before the one we have now was an acre on a mountainside.
It’s not impossible. Only your mindset makes it that.
Congenital heart defect with the right side showing advanced wear. Leaky heart valve. Have to use oxygen for anything intense. A pacemaker that acts like a speed governer and dials me back if I start to push myself hard. Spinal injury that limits my ability to bend. Artificial joint in right shoulder that is overdue for next replacement. I can still walk 20 km in a day and go up and down hills with about 60 lbs of camera gear if I take my time.
You can do it, Juke. Just ease into it.
Edit: This d00d is one of my photography besties:
His heart is worse than mine – he literallly no longer has a pulse. He scuba dives. He also has calves like The Hulk from mountain biking constantly. With that busted heart.
