As far as I understand it if there is damage or malfunction of the liver then your liver will upregulate the production of these enzymes. That doesn’t really tell you much you need to have a good understanding of the clinical indications of what causes raised enzyme levels. I don’t know the numbers but obviously it is outside of the refernce range and high enough that it has them try to figure out the cause instead of ignoring it.
NAFLD is a cause, so is medication. What is your bmi because being overweight and polypharmacy can’t be great for your liver.
It is actually best practice to test liver enzyme levels before and after you start a new antipsychotic medication. That way you can rule out if it is the antipsychotic or not. It isn’t super common but basically every antipsychotic has the possibility of raising your liver enzymes to high. See shame same that didn’t do a liver function test before you started the cariprazine. In practice no pdocs actually do this since it’s a physical health thing.
In 2018 I overdosed on acetaminophen and my liver function tests (ALT & AST) went up into the 9000s…they thought I was going to die or at least need a liver transplant, but eventually my liver repaired itself and my numbers came down and I was able to go home. I am now very careful about which meds I take that can affect my liver…I still remember the endless retching and numerous tubes going into my body, and the yellow tint to my skin. I hope that your LFTs come back normal soon and that the statin doesn’t do any damage to you. Good luck!
Trigger warning, crackpot theory: If you eat healthy then don’t worry about you cholesterol and don’t take statins. You need cholesterol to make hormones and a bunch of other important things.
